*Scene: In a quiet corner of the Elysian Fields is a small cricket ground, with a painted wooden pavilion and a few empty rows of bench seats behind the boundary rail. Thick rolling clouds scud overhead; some rays of light streak through them. The grass is a little long, but quite dry. Archangel Kes strides through the swing gate and onto the deserted pitch, pads covering crisply creased white flannels, bat tucked resolutely under arm. The commentary resumes: *
?Well, Brian, it?s a tense moment here, with the home side still needing six to win off the last two balls, and the twelfth man called in. The crowd are silent in anticipation and ???
*A clap of thunder peals from the clouds. Kes looks up.*
Alright, alright ? no harm in pretending.
*He waves his arms. Flannels and pads are replaced by the traditional angelic robes, the bat flies away and a clipboard materialises in his hands.*

Let?s get on with it then ?. Where?s that Seraph got to? We?ve got less than a week to get it all organised. I?ve spoken with Sir Don, and he?s agreed not to use the pitch all week as long as we keep clear of the strip.
*He pins a notice to the front wall of the pavilion. It reads:
?Heavenly Sainting Ceremony.
A Celebration of Maytime.
The next ceremony will be held as a May Fair on the Village Green (well, actually, the cricket ground because we don?t have a green since Noah?s surplus stock escaped). In addition to the Sainting, there will be Maypole dancing and other entertainments. All are welcome.
Please turn up on Friday 2nd May by 7 pm British Summer Time.
(If wet, in the Pavilion).?*
SERAPH! Where are you?
*A seraph grumbles onto the scene, followed by a famous film star and members of her family. Kes greets them.*

Kes Posted Apr 27, 2003
Aha! Here at last ? and what a pleasure to meet you Judy ? and your family. You?ll be helping us with the ceremony? Good. Seraph! A quiet word please ?
*Kes and the seraph walk a few paces away from the others.*
Seraph! When I said we needed Garlands all round the pavilion, I meant flowers! Can?t you get anything right? Well ? never mind ? they can help get the tea and sandwiches ready ? and get some flowers ?. And get the cherubs to set up a maypole over there ? and some more chairs ? and don?t forget the reserved signs for the front row ? for our new angels. Do I have to think of everything?
