Kwak

Belgium has little going for it, although it does claim to have come up with the idea for chips (frites, in the vernacular). It also claims to have over 400 different kinds of beer, each served in its own special glass.

I had a Kwak in Brussels' Grand Place. A Kwak comes in a glass with a rounded bottom, bit like a miniature "yard of ale", and a special wooden holder to rest it in between sips. I'm not a big beer drinker ("I'm feeling supersonic, bring me jinantonik")but it was definitely the nicest I've ever tasted - not too sweet, or bitter, or fizzy, or flat. Just very refreshing.

Kwak is very refreshing if you have one or two - if you have several it knocks you for six - it's one of those beers that doesn't taste strong but it's pretty potent! smiley - smiley

It used to be regualrly available in at least one of my regular haunts in Manchester (Queen's Arms, Honey Street for anybody local) - not sure if they still stock it - they did have a range of Belgian bottled beers, but I tend to drink pints of draught - it's cheaper, and better for my head. smiley - winkeye
