As served at The Claremont Hotel, 124 Claremont Road, Moss Side, Manchester.
It's been a while (like, 25 years), so my memories of it are limited to "Bloody 'ell, it was ". The Claremont was a rather idiosyncratic place at the time. Although the manager kept a terrific cellar, his ordering was a little off - he got his delivery on a Tuesday but had usually run out of beer by Monday night But on any other night of the week, especially at the weekend when the old waiter Walter was on duty, the mild there was just the best

It wasn't such a bad place in the late 70s - more students than drug dealers and gunfights. Hell, even Tony Wilson's original Factory Club was in Hulme (also not known for being a particularly safe area), but I walked there from my gaff a good few times, and back again late at night
