Holt's mild

Post 1

There is only one thing worse than being Gosho, and that is not being Gosho

As served at The Claremont Hotel, 124 Claremont Road, Moss Side, Manchester.

It's been a while (like, 25 years), so my memories of it are limited to "Bloody 'ell, it was smiley - bigeyes". The Claremont was a rather idiosyncratic place at the time. Although the manager kept a terrific cellar, his ordering was a little off - he got his delivery on a Tuesday but had usually run out of beer by Monday night smiley - doh But on any other night of the week, especially at the weekend when the old waiter Walter was on duty, the mild there was just the best smiley - tongueout

It wasn't such a bad place in the late 70s - more students than drug dealers and gunfights. Hell, even Tony Wilson's original Factory Club was in Hulme (also not known for being a particularly safe area), but I walked there from my gaff a good few times, and back again late at night smiley - smiley
