Oh, sorry you're serious. smiley - ermsmiley - erm

Well it depends on who they is. Disney have the rights to make it, but weren't doing a huge amount and was driven by DNA up until the day he died. Then the proposed director Jay Roach decided it wasn't worth bothering with and that it should be made as a tribute both at the same time. smiley - winkeye There have been so many conflicting reports it's now said to be in "development hell".

I have decided

Disney should leave everything and continue their sequel compaign. The BBC have done the HHGG before and can do it again, in one big block (a film/movie). The only problem is funding, this may sound in the realms of fantasy, a rather stupid idea.

The BBC could create a HHGG fund in which anyone can deposit money freely without repayment, who wants to have a film/movie. Therefore no money gets disapproiated from the TV licensing, and even if the film backfires, no one is in debt. This could take a long time but we have already waited nearly twenty years.

And then all the profit can go in a big pot for h2g2!

I doubt it would work but I agree that the BBC would make a good job.

*Would* the BBC do a good job? Their record with SF in the past has been patchy to say the least. Look at Doctor Who.

And if they can't even get around to commissioning a UK-based spin-off to Buffy The Vampire Slayer - a sure-fire winner practically handed to them - I think the chances of them doing justice to a Hitchhiker's movie are vanishingly small.

Are you a fan of Buffy? I can't recall anything more well-written, as far as television goes. It borders on genius. And yes, I think the BBC or anyone else who would try to make a movie out of something as complex and brilliant as "Hitchhiker's" is asking for trouble. Addam's sarcastic and clever take on human existence is probably best left for pages. But that's just an opinion

smiley - erm Maybe.
I'm really not sure now, I'm looking forward to reading Douglas' script in Salmon of Doubt in May though! smiley - smiley
I think the problem is that without DNA it won't have the fantastic drive and direction I'm sure DNA would have given it.
As sad as it is, it might just have to end up as a script. smiley - sadface

At least with the script you're seeing Douglas' actual intention, not the end result after it's been through the inevitable filtering of a big budget production.

And yes, I *love* Buffy - definitely the best show on TV at the moment. Which is why I can't understand why the BBC haven't snapped up Joss Whedon's offer of 'Ripper' (or 'The Watcher' as the BBC prefer, for obvious reasons).

I seem to recall that "The Watcher" was a character in Dr Who. Can't the BBC come up with something originalsmiley - winkeye

When is this script being released and when is it likely to be sent out to the convict settlements?

Buffy is far from the point (has anyone seen Anthony Stwert Head in Manchild).

The 'kitty' idea was a bit farfetched, however

The 'kitty' idea was a bit farfetched, however it could work if done correctly, like they could money in a company bank account so the money can build up (the only problem is tax) and not kept in someones office draws or splatted on Johnathon Ross's new wardrobe. The money should be tabed so that the BBC or someone knows how much is there is and tell us all online or join the HHGG money movie movement or that general sorta idea.

Not that I want to turn this all into a "Buffy" lovefest--well, yes, I do. Can't somebody start a conversation about her? I really don't know what I am doing here. That last thing I'll say about any "Hitchhiker" movie is this: How could anyone pull it off? You'd need to film a mini-seires, or something, just to get in half of the "plot". I think of books like that one and maybe "Catcher in the Rye" and they are almost holy to me, I really don't want marketing research groups and age specific demographics and advertising to tarnish and corrupt the books that honestly changed my life. I realize that is almost hokey to say, but they did.

back to the point please,
A HHGG film won't be made, if the BBC decide to srcap it in favour of a new British Buffy spin-off series or film. Starring the now British actor Anthony Stewert Head, with his return to England a few months ago.

"A HHGG film won't be made, if the BBC decide to srcap it in favour of a new British Buffy spin-off series or film."

I don't think anybody suggested such a thing. The two are not connected. My point was that, if the BBC can't even get a straighforward genre TV series off the ground when it's handed to them on a plate by a proven successful TV writer and procducer, then it's much less likely that they would spend $100m on an SF movie. Or, indeed, *any* movie.

Besides, in the true spirit of Hitchhiker's Guide it would need to be completely re-written with completely new elements previously unseen? smiley - smiley
