You might be interested to know that Douglas's preferred choice for Slartibartfast was Nigel Hawthorne. Sadly, that will never be.

*Even though not reading the backlog, DoD decides to butt in*
Douglas also sometimes said he liked the idea of Hugh Laurie as Arthur. He was often harassed about the Pythons doing various roles in the movie, but always said something like" They're all too old to be in the movie. Unless they all want to play Slartibartfast".
Isn't Hugh Laurie a bit over the edge as well now? I mean he IS after all turning 43 in June.

Im shocked at the thought that they would use such an AMERICAN person
like Jim Carry in the HHGTTG movie, and i'm American!
how about putting someone like Jonathan Reese Meyers in it.
Robin Williams would not be a good person for Arthur because he's too fat To Be Continued............

sorry, the reason the thing i said was repeated so many times was that i was out of time and i clicked the "post" button a lot of times because it was taking too much time
N.E.wayz
I think that they should choose a british person, and since I don't know many of ya'lls actors, I can't give N.E. names
But, the other characters that should be played by brits are: Trillian
Arthur, Marvin, and Slartibartfast
an American could play: Zaphod and the doors that talk possibly the computer on the ship.
that's all i can think of right now
maybe more will come to me later
2 B cont.....

What do you think of Eddie Murphy as Eddie the computer?

Sorry for diverting the main topic, but am I the only one opposed to the meer existence of a H2G2 film? Does anyone here remember how lame the televisation was?
Ok, that was a while back and visual technology has advanced quite al ot since its debut; also the spending budget would obviously be higher; but that is not the point. H2G2 in my opinion was never intended to be a visual conception, except in ones own head. That is why so many people were disappointed at the televisation; it did not fufill their subconcious imagery they had devised of Arthur Dent, Ford Prefect and so forth. It would be the same with the film.
Everyone has their own perceptions on all the entitys in H2G2, so no fan will be satisfied with the film. The only people who will at most, be content with the film are the individuals who have not read the books or listened to the radio series. They have no subconcious perception of Arthur Dent etc.
So, why bother? Its just another piece of shoddy merchandising which will inevitably ruin the books reputation among the people that actually matter; the fans.
Then again, as Winston Smith said, "I might be wrong"

Not at all; the television series was excellent and for many people confirmed what they imagined the characters to be like - did you really imagine Zaphod looking any other way?

I don't think there's any reason for mixing the television series and the movies up. The only thing they will have in common is Douglas. NOTHING else.
If I was to oppose a movie being made, it would be for the fact that it won't be what I or the rest of the fans, each individual ones, have pictured in their minds. The h2g2 novels have been disected and read over and over and over again by so many fans, that it's bound to disappoint most of us merely by having the wrong cast in this or that role or by excluding episodes we found extremely significant or funny but the director didn't.

I disagree with that. Maybe not EVERY fan will be happy with it, but I'm sure a lot would.

A similer thing happend with the "Lord of The Rings" some bits that seem significant in the books have been cut but in Genral it is an exelent portrail of the novel. it's ether what we have or siting in the thaeter for 5 hours per book (30 hours) And I don't think I could do that so whilst it wont live up to the book(s) it still could be very good
sorry bout my spelling

Robbin Williams over my dead body
His style of acting is more childish films and anyone who disagrees should see Good Will Hunting. Arthur Dent and everyone else should be played by great British actors like Nicholas "Rodney" Lindhurst as Ford Prefect etc. although we should'nt over do it, like Harry Potter. "It was like watching all the BBC shows wrapped into one" says one anti-potter fan. (NOT ME)
