What is your favorite quote from any of the five Hitchhiker books?
My personal favorite is:
"Ford," he said, "you're turning into a penguin. Stop it."
Aurther Dent when they first enter the Heart of Gold in the first book.

And another I'm fond of: Arthur on the subject of flying (without an aeroplane) - "the secret is, to throw yourself at the ground and miss!"
Hitchhiker quotes
Tonsil Revenge (PG) Posted Nov 22, 2003
"Six pints of bitter. And quickly, please. The world's about to end."
"Oh. Yes, sir? Nice weather for it. Going to watch the match this afternoon, sir?"
"No. No point."
"Foregone conclusion, that, you reckon, sir? Arsenal without a chance?"
"No, it's just that the world's going to end."
"Oh, yes, sir. So you said. Lucky escape for Arsenal if it did."
"No, not really."
***************
"Are you serious, sir? I mean, do you really think the world's going to end this afternoon?"
"Yes, in just over one minute and thirty-five seconds."
"Well, is there anything we can do?"
"No, nothing."
"I always thought we were meant to lie down or put a paper bag over our head or something."
"If you like, yes."
"Will that help?"
"No. Excuse me, I've got to find my friend."
"Oh, well, then. Last Orders, Please!"
Hitchhiker quotes

Hitchhiker quotes
b9nr515 Posted Dec 1, 2003
Dent argueing with the nutri-matic:
"'So that's it, is it?' said the Nutri-Matic when he had finished.
'Yes,' said Arthur, 'that is what I want.'
'You want the taste of dried leaves boiled in water?'
'Er, yes. With milk.'
'Squirted out of a cow?'
'Well, in a manner of speaking I suppose...'
'I'm going to need some help with this one"

Captain Stupid Posted Dec 9, 2003
There is a theory which states if ever anyone discovers exactly what the universe is for and why it is here, it will instanly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarely inexplicable
There is another theory which states that this has already happened
There is yet a third theory which suggests that both of the first two theories were concocted by a wily editor of the Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy in order to increase the level of uncertainty and paranoia and so boost sales of the Guide. This last theory is of course the most convincing,.....
