Hi Shady Guy .
"why do I find myself surrounded by peacemakers?"
Try flipping your perception over for a change. What have you done that has brought the peacemaker out in us?
I think that you will find, if you take the time to get to know the regulars here, that we all have quite busy lives (families, jobs, university, our faiths etc). We don't need to get a life for we have a surfeit of it. What we are trying to do is to make sense of this life.
In a debate that is rapidly approaching 5000 posts you can imagine we have ranged far and wide over life, the universe and everything. What is amazing is that rather than jading us we still have the energy to engage with people like yourself in a courteous and respectful manner despite your 'robust' approach. Perhaps you would like to consider how we do that and ask yourself if you want to become part of this ongoing experience.
Blessings,
Matholwch the Apostate /|\.

Yo Shady. (Da real Slim Shady?). You might have sussed that I'm one of the agnostics here. That means I think it's impossible to decide, not that I just don't know.

I've just watched the BB2 program. consensus of new scientific opinion is that the brain functions like a quantum computer and that the mind and the brain or two separate things.
did anyone see it?

I don't believe it, Hass. Do they say the mind can exist without the brain? If not, they ain't that separate, are they?

Hey, all...
Do any of you wonder what draws each of us to this conversation? Is it our desire to convince others we are right, or do you think it is to convince ourselves we are right?

Toxx.
Yes toxx they say the mind, the consciousness, can exist without the brain.
I've taped the program and later I'll re watch it to get the name of the person who is doing research into the brain on a cellular level. He's an american doctor. Then I'll put his name into google to see if there's any results, because when it come to quantum level explanations I need help!
I wish hoovooloo had seen the program !

Diversity
Both.
On a personal level, my near death experience has always been denied to me by others and I've found that over the years if enough people tell me I'm wrong, then it begins to feel that I must be wrong.
Peer pressure I suppose. I actually doubted something I knew to be true.
so I stopped talking about it for years and it's only in this conversation that I mentioned it again and the result was another denial of my experience from a member who no longer writes to this site.
It got quite heated and he told me I was stupid.
so I decided that no one else could fully understand another persons experience without having had it themselves.
now it seems that there is quite a lot of research into the NDE phenomena.
In a way it's funny or perhaps normal to reject things that can't be put under the microscope and dissected, to deny anything peculiar that cannot be seen with the physical senses. But I think that narrows our thinking. If this research is completed, it will show us that there is life after death as I believe there to be from personal experience.

Diversity. You assume that our motivation for participating here is something to do with being right. For myself, I like to be as clear as possible about my own views and exchange perceptions of where people, including myself, are going wrong. That's how we learn, after all, having our mistakes identified.
Some people object to this or regard it as 'trolling'. I apologise now to those who don't like this robust style of discussion. I believe it is in the best academic tradition, but it isn't usual in some societies and groups.

toxx the professor doing studies into the conscious and who believe that brain and mind are separate is Pofessor Stuart Hameroff
Here's some quantum theory !
