I would personally democratically vote against that particular smilie for the singular reason that it would virtually never get typed correctly -- especially by American pigs like me...
Jumping into the more recent backlogs, I would say that, as Kasia was talking about, virtually ALL politicians, particularly in my country, get elected on purely charismatic values -- if you actually listen to any of them, you'll find that not one of them actually proposes any kind of serious change or improvement. They all just spew forth whatever their speechwriter happens to think the public will want to hear.
At this point, in the U.S. at least, the only major difference between any President and another is whether or not he's going to start a war. Beyond that, you could pretty much shake them all up in a big hat and pull one out at random and end up in essentially the same state as you were in before.
That basic concept is what pisses me off about GW Bush -- The last GW Bush that got elected started a war (Desert Storm) almost immediately after he got elected, and it lasted through his whole term. Then Clinton was elected, he ended that fiasco and we had essentially 8 years of (more or less) peace. Then these stupid bloody Americans 'elect' ANOTHER GW Bush, and guess what happens -- he starts a war almost immediately after being 'elected'.
I mean, for s sake, is this not a fairly clear pattern, or what?

I guess that was not an answer to posting 281, E?
But you are right - it probably *was* Bossel. He could come up with something like that, I'm sure

We could always draw straws to elect representatives who could vote on whether to have straws in choc milk .....
Crossed Purposes:November 2001
Bluebottle Posted Nov 27, 2001
...And then I could come along and say "I'm from the EU, and I have decided for no apparent reason that you are not allowed to have chocolate milk or straws, but you can have banana milk that I made earlier and I want to make a large profit on by wiping out the competition.

NO!!! BB, that´s not the spirit of the EU... It goes like this:
You want to have a straw... Well, we will first have to find out if it´s done in Metric or in Imperial standards... Then there is the diameter... A straw with a diameter of 4,325 mm min to 5,255 mm is accepteble... all other non EU straws with Diameters less then the above will have to go through cutoms... And as we´re at it... Maximum 10 cm longer then the avrage mug is allowed. And you need a special recycling certificate for Germany
Wonderful EU!!! I love the place

OK -- quick reply to mari - rae's backlog -- I don't bother to vote for the same reason that I'm complaining -- there's nobody to vote FOR!!! It's very important to me, you know, to have somebody to vote FOR before I go vote, but there's never anybody different or who's going to actually CHANGE something, and that is what I'm ing about, and that's why I don't vote.
*whew* , I almost worked myself into a little political frenzy there... *pant, pant* ... I'd better go cool down for a bit.
::wanders over to the bar and sips a that mysteriously appeared::
Oh -- and E, I haven't the foggiest clue why Miss D. wouldn't be absolutely FASCINATED with your europeanisms *giggle, snort, snicker*. They WERE very nicely done, though.

Thog, you don't just vote for people...!!! Vote for issues, too... and can't you fill in the blank nomination!?? Vote for yourself. Heh....

And you can always join the party of non-voters, as they are called since two or three elections in Germany ...
Look at it this way: At the last vote for the European parliament, 80% of the british citizans didn´t vote... So it´s the party of non-voters who actually said us, Europes not for us... Well looking at the fact that the Euro´s coming in a little over an month, and England not taking part, and I heard someone saying brits sell their stuff half price so they get something sold at all, it´s the question if these people were right to not vote...
I dunno, ye know...

That leaves all the decision making to a 20% minority. Like I said, now they can't complain.
I dislike politics intensely. Let's talk about what everyone wishes for their Holiday gift.
