They´ll never learn the fact, that they aren´t an empire any more... It realy was funny/scary as a child: When I went to England, I felt far more German than over here in Germany: And then other children would belive I still believed in Hitler and suchlike... What nonsense... But perhaps that´s something not only the English have to learn...

Quite right, Engländer Not only the english have to learn. Fact is I am not too proud of the danes today. We have three elections today and we could very well end up with a rightwing government, based on the votes of xenophobics if not downright racists

The major flaw with democracy is that some people don't really deserve the vote...

I didn't vote for any person on the November ballot, because I didn't know a damn thing about any of them!!!
That's what being in college teaches you!!! HA!!!
... and... Kes... I'm worried about your hearing...

Thanks for the , englander...
I think the main problem with democracy is that you always have to pick from whatever candidates THEY give you, y'know?
::swills some :: You can't just be walking down the street and see some bloke and say to yerself "Hey, I think he'd be a good President", and stroll down to the polls next day and vote for him, y'know? No, instead you have to vote for one of the 'official candidates', and as far as I can tell, they're ALL looney!
The way I see it, anyone who would WANT to be President should be immediately disqualified from the running. Nobody with any common sense or half a skullfull of brains WANTS to be President.
It should work kinda like a sentence, y'know, like maybe for a misdemeanor or somethin, y'know. Some dude gets caught smoking a J and instead of getting hauled off to jail, they just say "okay, you've gtta serve your country for the next 4 years, so have fun, and oh, btw, here's 3 pounds o' Maui Wowie, 'cause man, yer gonna need it!"
Or, you know, something along those lines anyway, 'cause what we've got going on right now just isn't working. We always have to choose between the lesser of two or three evils, but
it, I'm
ing tired of having to pick any evil at all!!!
Which is why I don't vote either. I mean, it, they're al morons anyway, so what difference does it make? Of course, if I HAD voted, maybe that idiot GW Bush wouldn't have gotten 'elected'... hmmmmmmmm
Well, , that's all I've got to say.
::swills some more and stares at the bar top::

I candidated for our local townboard two years ago! You could have voted for me, if you´d have lived here I got 233 votes, which wasn´t bad at first go... but I left the group I was candidating, because of work, and they weren´t realy interested in my point of view concerning socialwork... That´s the worth proffesions have in politics

Egon, I disagree. It is actually one of the *good* things about democracy that even the ones "who don't deserve it" have the right to vote!
And Thog: In my country you can actually give *anyone* a vote. And if they get enough votes they are elected - and there is no way they can escape their duty (unless of course they are sick or very old or something like that)

*Speaking now just to her fellow countrymen:*
Go visit General Robert E. Lee's former farm and think about how all those acres and acres and acres of land have been used since the Civil War and then consider why voting is important.
