Ah well now Queen have bettered them technically, Queen have now sold more albums than The Beatles have - pretty impressive achievement. I don't think you could compare them though as they were different genres, different aims, different eras etc. you can have a personal favourite but you can't objectively decide whos better out of two such titans.

Well, Queen were never the best in innovating stuff, were they; brilliant music, fine vocals, but never groundbreaking new sounds or experiments. (You could argue they stole a lot from their sound from Yes, Genesis, added a bit of pop).

How'd we go from the Beatles to Queen? Both are great. They're diofferent, but great in their own way.

I was saying in the past 35 years since they slit theres hasnt been a group that can live upto their standard .

Baboon->very true; but every four or five year some group is called 'The New Beatles' which usually means a curse...especially in the early '70's the music press were searching for a new Great Band...

oasis seem to love playing in the style of the beatles. i really like their songs because of this but they are not as good in my eyes!!

I don't think they're trying to be as good as The Fab Four, I mean Liam is too cocky and they're not as nice and gentlemanly as The Beatles were. They just were influenced by them a lot and pay obvious homage to them with various song lyrics etc.
I luv 'em though, in fact they're my third favourite band, Queen are my first. I should listen to more Beatles though 'cos they would probably go high up on my list.

yeah no i agree, i dont think they are trying to be the beatles. i think it is great that ringo's son is the drummer- it makes them that much better!!!!

Isn't it a testament to the Beatles that their kids now play the same instruments that they did?

Well Paul's son James plays guitar and played a solo bit on one of the tracks on Paul's Flaming Pie album. And John's sons Julian amnd Sean both jhave released albums. They actually released albums on the same day a few years ago, kinda to rival each other or something. Think George's son Dhani plays guitar too.

knew about Ringo's and Paul's sons, not the others though.
Oasis are a great band, it's fun trying to find all the beatles references in their songs

It's always nice to find Beatle-references in other artists albums. My favourite is 'Goodbye Jumbo' from World Party...swirling strings, mellotrons, three-part vocal harmonies...Some tunes from Crowded House are very Beatlesque (Pineapple Head is a rewrite of Norwegian Wood).
And Macca's own new Jenny Wrench is Blackbird revisited.

The thing about the fab four is their standard and quality .Apart from the second part of the white album the rest of their recordings are outstanding. Its difficult to find other muscians that can live upto that.

They're also very rare in that they got better with time.
Not saying their early stuff isn't any good, but comparing please please me, love me do, to Penny Lane and Lucy in the Sky...
