I'm definately up for it. Edinburgh would be good, 'cos I live here. During the festival in August means a nice atmosphere too (although it also means big crowds and negotiating your way, kamakasi-style through streat-theatre)

I'm up for it, but it's very date-dependant. Definitely before August 15th. And preferably in Aberdeen (Heh, like that's gonna happen ) But Edinburgh is fine as well

I'll add support for Aberdeen as a venue too... Lots of nice pubs, and it solves my transport/booze dichotomy...

Just so long as it's NOT in the Amadeus (bleah) - it's vile!

Okay, we're going to have to come to a decision here...
*decisively picks a date at random*
Does anyone have any really strong objections to the gathering taking place in Edinburgh on Saturday August 5th?

Cutlery - I'd rather walk to Edinburgh barefoot than spend any time at Amadeus!!! "The Old Town School" is more my kind of venue...

Blech, Aberdeen. As a native (and escapee) I'm not enamoured of the place
That date works for me EV.
And Cut- you're here! You're coming to the meeting K, now I'm happy- everyone I wanna meet is gonna be there... *g*

August 5th is fine with me. Edinburgh sounds fine too, although I can probably get to anywhere, as long as someone gives me a road description to where we're going, or finds me wandering aimlessly at some train station in a strange part of town.

Okay, so the date and city seems to have been decided upon. Now, how about a place and time? As I've said before, I'm all for wandering round aimlessly in Edinburgh, but I'd be pretty happy if I had somewhere to go.

Well, if we follow the format of the London event, we could wander around aimlessly in Princes Street gardens all afternoon, and then adjourn to a public house... What's the best pub in Edinburgh?

Wandering around aimlessly? That sounds really good. It is something I'm almost possibly could get a Ph D in. I like that idea.
I don't have any good tips on pubs, though. The only one I know of is the Three quarters Sports bar, but I don't know if that'll do us any good.

Okay, hands up who wants to write a guide entry entitled "Good pubs in Edinburgh"!

Nononono... when you need information, the idea is to SEARCH the guide for it, not try and write it into the guide... (They're all crazy, I tell you).

Well is there a list of good pubs in Edinburgh on the guide. If not we could do a pub crawl on the 5th and do the research for it.

Can I register a vote against any pub with the word "sports" in its name... (Bad experience of meeting up with a friend I hadn't seen for two years, only to entirely fail to have a conversation because of a blaring big-screen rugby match) My preferences extend to quieter, less smoky establishments, where it's possible to get something to eat... (You can take this as a statement of intention to attempt to appear )
