Mardi Gras 2004

How sad that t5he Missisippi River is blocked off right now. Boatloads of tourists will just have to amuse themselves in New Orleans at Mardi Gras, while waiting for the river to reopen.

The first float is ready to roll. The music is playing. A crowd is gathering along the parade route.
Everyone is welcome to join the festivities.

Mardi Gras is celebrated in three places: The French Rivierra, New Orleans, and Rio de Janeiro. I have about an equal chance of getting to any of them.

There are other places that celebrate Mardi Gras. In Louisiana: New Roads (on land and in boats), Slidell, Mamou (chicken chasers), and Baton Rouge (Spanish Town Parade). Alabama has been celebrating Mardi Gras for several years.
This is the third annual H2G2 parade. Would you like to ride on my float, or perhaps design your own and join the parade? Come on, you know you want to
::The floats are lined up and ready to roll on the usual parade route around the Campsite::

We probably should start this parade moving...
*starts the float moving, slowly so the others have a chance to fall in line, and follow*

Hi, glad to see y'all could make it to the parade. Have a good time, that *is* what Mardi Gras is about.
*throws some trinkets into the crowd and watches as the crowd cheers a bit*

Fourteen more hours...in RL and well an eternity in VL.
We've only made it past the first part of the route.
*throws more beads*
Would you like to join me on this float?

In these crates, there are some beads and trinkets to throw to the crowd. And in the other crates, are the refreshments: ... Help yourself to the beads, trinkets and refreshments. Most importantly, have a good time.
*drifts back to the front of the float to resume the parade*
:: Floats begin to move again along the route continuing on the one side of the Campsite, while the crowd gathers in anticipation farther along the route::

Austin has a good sized Mardi Gras celebration as well. The parade has been cancelled in recent years, due to riots and public nudity, however.

Glad to have you aboard.
Really must say, I didn't realize you were in Texas.
*throws some beads and doubloons*
I hadn't heard about the parades in Austin. We hear quite a bit about Alabama every year. My friend's dad takes an annual ski trip over the Mardi Gras weekend and brings beads and doubloons to Colorado to share with other skiers.

I'm too lazy to make my own float, so I'll ride on someone else's.
Riots and public nudity?
Not much time to think up a costume. I have some crisscross shirts, I'll wear one of them, and some crisscross pants, and come as a piece of graph paper.
