The Mardi Gras Parade!

Vaguely wonders why everyone is getting so worried about being worried, comes to the conclusion that they all need and beads, and throws them happily into the crowd.

Landmark time! We just reached the 100 post for this Parade thread - and it just happens to be Mardi Gras today!
* Throws extra supplies of Semlor to everyone watching the parade*

Erm.....
It is kind of confusing to have
a campfire and a campsite that
are nowhere near each other.
I went to the Campfire looking for the
parade, and there was no sign of it.
Of course, Rio de Janeiro would be the perfect
place to be right now. It's summer now, and
everybody is dancing the samba out in the
streets.
Come, come with me, we'll dance along the street
Together, together with everyone we meet.
We'll sing a song, and if they like it, then
Together, together they'll sing it back again,

Would you like some ? or King?

*Holding a large, full plate with one hand and snacking with the other, while steering with feet.*
We are now heading on down to near the Tiki Hut, which is temporarily here. All the clientele have come out and are weaving around, trying to catch trinkets and failing miserably. The atmosphere is still good, despite Mardi Gras being long gone.

What a mess!
*starts to clear up*
Still, fun though hey? We'll have to remember to have another one next year...

*Parks the float, and turns off the music.*
There' that's finished. I'm sure that blazed quite a trail around the edge of the Campsite. Do you think it should go on the prospective map?
*Starts picking up endless Rizla packets, plastic bottles and trodden in trinkets, and stowing them conscientiously in a plastic bag.*

*helps with cleaning the mess left from Mardi Gras, not so much litter on the ground as it is beads stuck in the trees and doubloons in the grass*
*prepares refreshments for others who are cleaning*
The question is how do we get these floats back to where they belong? Now that Ash Wednesday is over, a post parade party would be okay too. If anyone is interested...

What happens to a float? Is there some ritualized disposal technique? Just trashing it would be fun.
The Mardi Gras Parade!
Evangeline Posted Feb 17, 2002
Usually the bigger floats(say the ones from the New Orleans parades) are parked in warehouses. The smaller parades(Baton Rouge etc.) park the floats at various places relative to the club that owns the float(a club member's garage or backyard). Each year the floats are redecorated with a new theme.
For the campground...well the frame would be removable from the bicycle so the bicycle could still be used.

Perhaps we could start a 'bicycle hire' service to keep transport within the h2g2 site environmentally friendly?
Does anyone else remember the bikes you used to be able to hire at Butlins to get round the campsites?

Never beem to Butlin's myself. Bikes are good for transport, and we do have a sizeable campsite now.
