h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

*Dr. Felsner and Scandrea look at each other, the antelope, and back to each other again.*

[S] They're on the run- we have to retake the camp.

*Dr. Felsner throws a rock at one of the fallen spiders to be sure that it is dead as Scandrea takes point. He throws a bit too hard for the world's lessened gravity, and it shatters the exoskeleton on the underbelly as it riccochets.*

*Dr. Felsner and Scandrea slowly make their way into the camp.*

*Scandrea's radio crackles into life*

\/\[Hough] Hough here, do you need back up, repeat do you need back up

*Dr. Felsner answers as Scandrea takes point into the wrecked camp.*

[DF] /\/ They've broken off pursuit, but be aware- the dominant predator on this planet seems to be some sort of giant spider. We're setting up a perimeter around the camp./\/

[Hough] Do you want us to apprise Stargate Command of the situation

*Scandrea doesn't see any immediate danger, so she takes her radio.*

[S] /\/That might be for the best- let them know we may come back early, if the predator situation continues. What is your location?/\/

[Hough] \/\I'm guarding the Gate, I'll send them a message, there are preditors here but we're in no danger, Hough out/\/

*Hough dials the gate and prepares to send a message through*

*Scandrea pokes her P 90 into a tent.*

[S] It looks like we're clear...

[DF] *On her six* I think we'd notice a two-meter tall spider.

*Scandrea reaches into one of the crates, and pulls out some netting.*

[S] They certainly made a mess of the place- here. String this netting up, and we'll create a barrier around the camp.

[DF] *Takes the netting with an uncertain look on his face.* And this is supposed to stop them?

[S] No, but it might slow them down. And anyway, you need some exercise, old man!

*Dr. Felsner rolls his eyes and starts securing the netting between the trees as Scandrea rights some of the equipment.*

*Dr. Felsner finishes with the netting, and helps Scandrea fix a tent.*

[DF] You know, I think he's got a crush on you...

[S] *Acerbic laugh* Who?

[DF] The officer at the computer, dialing the gate- Walter Harriman, I think his name is.

[S] I thought it was Davis. Everyone just calls him Walter anyway.

*They move on. to some knocked over crates.*

[DF] He ever ask you out?

[S] You know as well as I do- no fraternization among officers!

[DF] You're not a stickler for regulations- remember the Grate BIF Heist?

[S] *Shoots him a withering glare.* That was just one rock, off a mountain, that just happened to be federal land!

[DF] He likes you...

[S] What are you, five?

*The antelope, which remained behind the rocks, now ventures back down towards the camp and pushes tenetively at the netting. It turns round in circles for a while, looking for the rest of the herd, before standing there looking a bit confused*

*The camp is more or less set up again, with an opening in the netting facing the gate, which Scandrea and Dr. Felsner are guarding. Dr. Felsner turns to look at the antelope.*

[DF] What do you suppose we should do with that?

*Scandrea shrugs*

[S] I dunno- I guess we've just got to look after it until a herd comes along.
