To be fair to Billy Bragg he was being goaded by Harry Hill into doing it.
And as for Rolf Harris... He's also murdered Stairway to Heaven in his time. But to his credit he'd never actually heard the original before recording his version (he was approached to do it as one of a whole load of people covering it), and when he heard the original later, he was quoted as saying "What have I done?"
Was Rolf Harris ever actually a pop star, strictly speaking? I always had him down as a novelty act. Sort of one hit wonder who forgot to stop.
