Nice song quotations!
I take it you were an angry registrar? Lazy bastards indeed and I hope they lost their accreditation at the very least--that's terribly unprofessional.

This may sound stupid, but why leave [your name]? Why not make some comment telling the rest of us what you are doing IRL or on H2G2 or elsewhere on the net, some interesting quote you've heard, something new you learned today, commentary on the news . . . Would you just say your name to a friend IRL if you saw them at a coffeehouse, or would you give them a bit of an update?
This is not a personal attack and I am not trying to be overly critical--I'm just new to this and interested.
[completely insane]

Calling cards are a bit of a tradition round here. You leave a [calling card] when you've caught up with the backlog but haven't the inclination or time to join in with the conversation. They are particularly useful when you know you're going to have to log off immediately after posting because other people then don't waste their time by trying to engage you in a conversation.
Visit the Atelier's page for more information about our quirky habits.

Morning all. The day has dawned cloudy and overcast in New Zealand.
Nice dress Kathy. Is it new?
Must run. Catch you later.

*The Professor (no, hang on, he's away...Ok then...), sorry, Chris, his RL counterpart, virtually walks in from RL.*
*Erm...this is going to confuse me...*
Hey guys!
Couldn't resist coming in, and I don't want to ruin VR continuity, so I'll still say that the Prof is outta this dive.
*Calls into VR:*
Matina, a glass of whatever the Prof has please...
Oh, I've finally got round to doing some artwork that people might actually want to see. It's done in 3ds Max, which I'm getting to know now, and represents the Gelectron Generator in the 'station.
It's not quite finished yet - the textures are basic, and I haven't added any lights but ambient, but I'll get something done soon...

okay . . . the atelier's page doesn't explain what a calling card IS, just that you should leave one. I have read it and know about the Venus Flytrap and the general layout of the place and Lil and two people who don't seem to live here anymore for reasons that I can vaguely gather are very bad (well the second person moved because it was lonely).
Thank you for the compliment IRL, you'll never guess where I just got back from and what I'm about to go do . . .
*working on that bloody Latin presentation*

This is ridiculous! I just met YK--He stage manages himself, two good clones, six other good personalities, and six bad clones--not to mention four cats. How would one even keep that straight?
Wine, Matina . . . might as well turn a Latin paper into a symposium
*a funny thing happened on the way to the forum* (my paper is on comedy in Roman oratory, so yeah, it's related)

Talking of Violets. Has she (they?) been found yet?

I found a course listing at that link, nothing to do with my topic. And I know someone has already written one: Katherine Geffcken, Comedy in the Pro Caelio. This is a 20 minute oral presentation.

Interesting Pic, Tonkster... not sure that I would agree with all the proportions though.

*wanders in, trying to block out the fact, of which previous conversation has reminded her, that she has an eight page paper due on Tuesday and hasn't even picked a topic yet*
'Morning. lt's got to be morning somewhere...
Blackberry tea please, Matina.

*is unsuccessful at blocking out this fact of the paper*
l'm to compare and contrast "the method of the artist's presentation of vision in two different types of media", for this paper. l'm considering using David Foster Wallace's "Girl With Curious Hair" and Magritte's "La condition humaine". Anyone have any thoughts on either?
Ah, thank you, Matina.
