Lonnytunes - Winter Is Here

"Sorry can't help you there Odradek," types a man whose hair, somewhat curiously, fell out.

Now back to work on the Cosmopolitan Club's 12-page Christmas newsletter - 10 pages to go - deadline Thursday.

*glances behind couch. Spots...is that a Tribble?*

*hands hair-mass to Loony*
Think you dropped this...
*Dio promptly attacks the thing and bats it about*

*puts on Grateful Dead's Box of Rain*

"Maybe you'll find direction
Around some corner where it's been waiting
To meet you..."

Asteroid Lil - Offstage Presence

*comes through library looking slightly bleary*

I couldn't even tell you what I've been doing all day, but it seemed to involve a bit of to and fro. Matina, I'll have some hot chocolate as well I think -- you can make mine.

CChick, before we had calling cards we had people dashing into the room, shouting "Bookmark!" and dashing out again. I thought it was rather discontinuous for other people who were conversing, so I proposed that we switch over to calling cards because it just seems more civilised, given that we are perpetuating the idea of actually being together, chatting. Now people are designing nice individualised calling cards. Matina gathers them up regularly and converts them to mulch for the gardenerbot.

When a thread moves rapidly, as they tend to do here, one wants to leave place markers, and we just worked out that calling cards was the nicest way to do it. They seem to be in general use all around the site now.

So, you've discovered YK. A nice intelligent lad, but confusing to be in an elevator with. smiley - silly Seriously, I've found it hard going sometimes, to share an adventure thread with all of him.

Odra, is Anqa's box position OK with you? Irv has brought in a horse, a buckskin named Mocha. And I think CChick may either bring in one or buy Shamrock...

Odra--I think I could provide you with some intelligent feedback if you could find me copies of each on the web; I'm sure they're out there. Sounds like an interesting topic--the sort of thing I would pick! Immediately, I would suggest the book The Object Stares Back by James Elkins, although it may not be relevant; you might also try looking under visual culture, or at some feminist art books. Douglas Hofstadter has interesting things to say about Magritte in Godel, Escher, Bach: An Eternal Golden Braid, but I don't know if that relates to what you are looking at. While the visual and visual culture, and specifically in feminist terms, is decidedly my "thing," I can't help you out very much without something a little more specific to go on, and I definitely can't help you until after I do this presentation tomorrow. Feel free to contact me at [email protected].

lt's fine with me, Lil. l'm hoping to get down there soon and have a good look round. And a bit of a ride, too...

By the way, l might be able to bring in some lesson horses if any are required. l could mail you some descriptions if you're interested? What address should l use?

Shamrock is a lovely horse . . . I don't know about buying a horse--I'm such a city girl IRL, but in VR it might be nice . . . I have not really tried to participate in a conversation with YK, etc. yet but am game to try smiley - smiley.

Mocha please, Matina?

Thanks, Kathy. The paper l'm having to write tomorrow, 'cos it's due Tuesday (insert cringe here), but l do appreciate it. Hope your presentation goes well.

Let's see, what else have l to do...moon observations and charting due next week, German extra credit to make up for my..ah..shall we say "lacklustre" attendance in said class, due Thursday, astronomy portfolio and data validation programming assignment also due with paper this Tuesday.

l'm on the accelerated program. An entire semester's worth of assignments all in a day and a half... smiley - online2long

Know the feeling smiley - smiley

Anyway, I can talk to you about the art tomorrow evening after I get back from class if you are stuck on something (hopefully for your sake you will not be). That will probably be sometime between 4 and 7 PM Eastern Standard Time. Feel free to e-mail me any time between now and then and I will do my best to respond.

I have a 10-15 page paper due not this Friday but next for feminist art theory and an ethnography for anthropology . . . and three big exams. It never ends, does it?

Ah but after exams, break glorious break!

The weeks of doing nothing afterward make it worthwhile...

Loony, I can't resist bragging about my father-in-law, he's a professor of nuclear physic theory. The Bang-Hansteen theory that he wrote in the 60's is still valid. smiley - smiley

Sporky is that your comment on nuclear physics theory or just another B&S track to play smiley - winkeye

Bumblebee - which one was your father then, Bang or Hansteen?

I don't know about anyone else but I almost feel good about being in work today. Having a day off doing something else really does make a difference smiley - smiley

Anyway, while I'm here, did you enjoy Celtic v. Hibs then Looney? Another action packed top of the table clash from the home of inept players, but strangely good coaches.
Oh and on calling cards, I do find it somewhat difficult not to say something afterwards (as you may have noticed smiley - smiley) Anyway, I think I shall retire to the corner with a nice pot of Darjeeling and a couple of scones if I may.
