From the New York Times obituary in 2005:
"
Because he leavened his darkest visions with wit and absurdist plotting, he is considered one of science fiction's seminal humorists, and a precursor to Douglas Adams, whose "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" (1979) seems to take place in a Sheckleyan universe. But Mr. Sheckley's work is darker than Mr. Adams's; the smiles he evokes leave a bitter taste on the lips. A better comparison might be to Kafka, a fabulist who could never understood why his friends didn't laugh when he read his stories to them.

I wish I had a brain recorder - I came here to post something absolutely brilliant and, on the way, I lost it. Completely.
Ah well, meanwhile I decided to check why the weather was making so much noise, and here's the version:
Much almost freezing
So soft
So brr
Wow light snow
2ºC/36ºF
Yep, sums it up pretty well.

dogeweather is lying to me today, it says it's clear sky and mild and amazing. In fact it's rather gray, there's an uncomfortably strong wind and it looks like it may rain later.

Ben is away today. So i have a whole day totally alone. As an extrovert this scares me.

Today is the second anniversary of my incarceration at Ladera. Time has not flown by.

We have a huge storm today, with gusts of up to 120 kmh. In the park everything is full of branches and even a tree fell. The crows also lost a few nests (but they were not breeding yet). We also heard sirens multiple times today. In Vienna a woman was killed by a falling branch and there was quite a lot of damage to houses.
we stayed at home most of the day...

I've spent today cleaning the kitchen and playing with my data. I have also done some laundry for the first time in 5 years. This is rather disturbing.

So, how did the under-house go, HN?
In today's news at Ladera, Jerry tried to leave via the fire exit, an aide brought the breakfast tray to D's room and found him in full self-pleasure mode (happy to have an audience), and a different aide was quite consternated when she realized I was discussing things with actual Europeans on Skype. You guys have internet, too! The philosophy of American exceptionalism seems to thrive in the teeth of the facts.
And Fred Phelps, founder of Westboro Baptist Church, is near death.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
