Always helpful to have some more "a"s around the place!

aaaaaaaaaahh! She took our "a"s - and now we need more
Alternatively, I think I've got a mufflewhump round her somewhere...

I am beginning to pack for my trip to Egypt this weekend. All the while praying that my head cold dissipates before I board a small flying tube with pressurized air squeezing my sinuses into a ball of pain. I am a bit worried about that. I don't fly well in the best of times. Adding acute pain to an already uncomfortable experience seems like the opposite of fun. Any frequent travelers have any advice?

I would just suggest standard meds and chewing something throughout the flight - I found it helps with my sinuses as a side-effect
Though the problem is the lack of pressure - your sinuses are actually being expanded - for me its the recycled air that's the killer - I always end up ill
As you may guess, I don't especially like flying (the actual flying bit is fine - I don't suffer from any fear, even now that I know the physics (apparently for some people learning it makes it much worse for them)) - it's all the side things that are the problem
Egypt will be interesting though - do come back (or post there) stories - I've not known anyone who has been there more than a stopover
Hope it clears up

Titania (gone for lunch) Posted May 22, 2013
A good, thorough rinsing with salt water. Several years ago I was snorkling in the Red Sea despite a beginning sinusitis - a leaky diver's mask (borrowed) and a flooded snorkel (the wawes suddenly grew bigger) took care of that. After I had coughed up sea water through both nose and mouth the sinusitis was completely gone.

I will try to Santra from Egypt. My colleague who just got back from there apparently racked up several hundred dollars in data usage on the company mobile, so they just added unlimited international data to the plan for my trip. I'll be as connected as the local networks allow.

How's the jet lag, then, Pastey?
I'm planning my next trip to Walmart; it will be a lot easier than the first, now that I know what to expect from street corners and how to significantly shorten the journey.

Pastey--We want photos! (Yes, it's OK to put pics of the girls online.)
Lil--Shortened journeys are good, but more confidence is great!

minichessemouse - Ahoy there me barnacle! Posted May 23, 2013
Hello to the newcomers.
Accessed the site via a link on farcebook the other day and noticed that the barleyskew headline banner has acquired two white mice. How long have they been there?
Anyway I came in to ask about bilingualism and experiences thereof as I know we've a few internationals in here.
I ask because R and o attended a Gaelic toddler group this morning to discover that it feeds onto a Gaelic nursery which in turn feeds into a Gaelic medium unit in one of the local primary schools. And as much as i would love for R to have some Gaelic I'm unsure if I want to follow all the way through with a Gaelic medium education.
On the other hand I myself have a little Gaelic buried somewhere in the depths of my memory and this could be a wonderful opportunity to improve on that, especially as the local college has Gaelic learner courses for adults.
And then I would need to con nice S of the benefits etc. He is utterly hopeless at languages whereas I seem to have a natural gift.
Sol, Sinatra, Ti advice please (and everyone else too)
Mini (please excuse the miswordings I'm typing on my phone which has a nasty rabbit of autocorrect sensible statements into nonsensical silliness.)
Key: Complain about this post
