Brings a new meaning to 'candlelight dinner' smiley - tongueout

Have written tomorrow's journal posting and about 1/3 of Thursday's - am now debating with myself if I should play some Oblivion for fun rather than the story, or go to bed. I'll just lie down on this sofa here and think about it...smiley - zzz

I don't like marzipan.

Just read that entry about keeping warm in winter - just laughed because it sounds just like my student days!

Though our house can be cold during the day it does warm up in the evening when the heating goes on. I am the only one in durign the day so it doesn't go on which means I put on lots of layers and curl up under a blanket!

I love marzipan, as long as it's the good stuff and not laced with artificial flavor or cement.

minichessemouse - Ahoy there me barnacle!

I'm camping out under my duvet this evening. The worst part is that S is away, so I can't even steal his warms.

Boiler repair man will hopefully fix it tomorrow.

Think I might go cook dinner soon smiley - silly

Mexican food. I don't know I have tried it quite a few times both here and in the States and it never really grabbed me. I eat pretty much anything so I am not sure where I am going wrong. Saying that someone cooked fajitas when I was up in Scotland and they were not bad.
Yes, travelling half way round the world and eating/drinking the same stuff as I would have at home always seemed pointless to me.

The best fajitas I have ever had were at a place called Miguel's on Coronado island in the San Diego area, this was when on honeymoon with J.

I tend to eat the native cuisine of wherever I'm on holiday. But then I always seem to holiday either at home in England or in the USA, so the food is rarely too unfamiliar. I maybe going to talinn next year and don't know much about Estonian food, so I may get ti try sine thing new there.

Hyp, I would love to see the sequoias in California. There are some big redwoods over here in Moray, but nothing like the size of the ones there.

Have a lovely trip, Eats, just don't bring your chainsaw... smiley - rofl

Tod, next time you have the chance, try Mexican food Veracruz style -- mostly seafood, and very fresh flavors.

The only Mexican style food I can remember eating is at a *cough-franchise-chain* here in Sweden, not sure how representative their menu is. Tacos, nachos, fajitas and burritos with various toppings/fillings and sauces.

One place I'd like to eat at is Stockholm's first 'cevicheria' - I've only eaten ceviche once, home made by my Flamenco teacher's mother, who is from Peru, so I'm pretty sure it was the 'real stuff'.

Delicious, if a bit on the smiley - dragon side - but she refused to give the recipe, claiming it was a 'family secret'. I only had one of her mummified potatoes though, as they looked pretty smiley - yuk, and it wasn't quite up my alley - at all.

When my parents came out to California for my wedding, we took them to a Mexican joint on Olvera Street (historically, the oldest street in town, 220+ years old [yeah, keep laughing, youse guys over there! smiley - tongueout]) they didn't quite know what to make of their carnitas plate -- slow simmered pork in a spicy sauce, refried beans, mexican rice and fresh avocado dressing. THEN, my in-laws took us all to a Mexican chain restaurant, and they loved it -- all gringo food! No accounting for taste -- La Luz del Dia is where the Mexicans ate and so did M and I, every chance we got.

Marzipan ~IN~ Chocolate. Mmmm... An I have to agree: not the the chintzy stuff, but the real thing. I remember it from my childhood in Germany and it was a favorite candy treat. Of course, portions were limited so as not to upset the tummy, and only ~after~ a meal. During the holidays, the eggnog flowed freely and the marzipan was prevalent.
smiley - tongueout
Mexicali food is a great stand-by for me, especially if it's easy to get to. Austin, TX, was a great place for finding more authentic cuisine. My wife, though not of Mexican descent, was once married to someone who was, and she picked up some good pointers from his mother. So, at home, we have fairly authentic meals as long as she can find the fixin's in the local grocers.

Carnitas smiley - drool

We have quite an influx of Hispanics in this area because of the poultry plants. Consequently, we are getting some small Mom & Pop restaurants that haved authentic dishes. It is also much easier now to get proper ingredients to cook it myself. Slowly but surely the rest of the world is discovering Little DooDah.

We had a cool front blow in overnight. It's 25ยบ cooler this morning than this time yesterday morning.

Magwitch - My name is Mags and I am funky.

We finally relented and put the heating on timed. I don't mind snuggling down with a blanket of an evening, but it's a little difficult during the day when you've got other things to do.

I love marzipan, especially covered in chocolate smiley - drool

I quite enjoyed the Thai food I had when I went to Thailand, although it has quite spoiled me for what I can get locally. Other than that, I've never gone anywhere outside of the North American continent, so my dietary explorations have been limited to what I can get here.

G'mornings, all!

At the previous location of our head office, we had a tiny Sushi restaurant/take away across the street - owned and staffed by some Chinese, who also did some mean Thai woks smiley - bigeyes You had better be very early or very late not to have to stand in a loooong line. Or phone in your order and be given a time when it would be ready to pick up. I'm not a fan of sushi myself, but those of my colleagues who are swore it was the best they had ever tasted.
