I agree.
I went to a work training thing today. The lady started off by saying 'Writing objectives is just like knitting - you need the right needles'. All I know of knitting is that it is the process by which sheep are turned into Doctor Who scarves, so the training thing went a bit downhill after that.

What an odd comparison Bluebottle

I found that to be especially true in Venice (Italy). The Piazza Grande was surronded by expensive tourist traps, usually with someone posted outside shouting today's specials at you, attemptin to lure you inside.
Much better to get completely lost in the small and narrow side streets and look for a place with plenty of Italian guests.

I always try to avoid places that have people outside them. Especially if they are trying to push you into sitting down in the restaurant/cafe. Nothing I hate more...

Stay warm mini! J likes the house to be cool (66F), I like it to be warm (74/75F). We had a compromise last year of 70F, it nearly fell through this morning.

It must take quite a while to knit a Tom Baker scarf. And what a thing to be famous for...
My medical service travails have taken a new twist. I cannot find transportation for love or money or entitlement. All the specialist transportation services now have contracts with the state that forbid them from carrying anybody who isn't on the right kind of medicaid. The company that has been carrying me (at great expense to me) will no longer even take my credit card because of afore-mentioned state contract.
I have Medicare Part A and B, neither of which cover transportation. I have a Qualified Medicaid entitlement, which does not include transportation. The County Commission refused to grant matching funds for federal aid to the local transportation service (which has a special van), which meant they now confine their service to the two towns where they are based, i.e., not Lincoln.
My neighbors all have tall vehicles, trucks and SUV's, too high for me to transfer into with just my board, except for one, who has had major heart surgery and couldn't manage my wchair (4 transfers needed to get to doctor and back, remember). And in any case, I am unwilling to risk going with a neighbor because of insurance liabilities. In other words, if something happens to me while I'm a passenger in their car, it could send their insurance payments up.
So. I have written to my state representative who, as it happens, is on committees having to do with health and medical services. Let's see whether something can be accomplished. Otherwise I have premonitions of never getting out of this house again.

Lil, that sounds horrible. But the State Rep sounds like the right way to go. Maybe your US congressperson, as well? I've heard that even politicians who normally frown on public benefits will sometimes pitch in to help individual voters.

Oh yes, I'm with you, Hyp. The honeymoon S and I went on was the result of a gift from her aunt and uncle: a week at their timeshare in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. It was a very generous gift, but finding Mexican food in that tourist town was difficult. Everyone wanted to make us feel "at home," which was the exact opposite of what we were there to do.

Talking of Mexican food, it's been announced that we're going to a Mexican restaurant for our work Christmas Do this year. Never been to a Mexican restaurant before. I suspect there won't be any mince pies...

In MY day we never had Mexican restaurants or American fast food chains in England. No, WE made do with rubberoid steaks at Berni Inn.

I do love Mexican food... But I am confused by the concept of Mexican food in England. I wonder if it will be like the Mexican food in Alaska - which I understand to be only nominally Mexican.

Bluebottle, I'm highly skeptical that you'll ever have been to a Mexican restaurant after this Christmas Do. If there are mince pies, I would say you're definitely not at a Mexican restaurant.

I went to a Mexican restaurant (here in Germany) once. It was horrible. I'll never do that again.

Whenever I go to Mexican restaurants around here, I end up ordering either quesadillas or hamburgers. I'm not really a restaurant-and-travel sort of person.
I haven't contacted a doctor about my sleep-issues because they're largely ... self-inflicted, as it were, due to my incompetence in getting to bed at the right time and experimenting with temperature. I seem to have *that* part under control; last night I got a full uninterrupted six hours before I got awakened by a phone call!

Just had a visit from 'Boiler Repair Man'
He say it's gubbed, no heat tonight but he might be able to fix it tomorrow with some new parts.
Hopefully I won't turn into a mouseicle!
