and now I'm tired. smiley - yawn

I guess some part in me tried to make up for last night. The husband (and I) were invited by a former co-worker (and his wife) of him. He had helped them with their kitchen.
The restaurant was the Crazy Cactus - Mexican restaurant. Getting there proved to be somewhat difficult - we (or rather: the husband) took one wrong turn, and we ended up in the pampa. Now instead of calling his mate, he drove in circles. At some point I suggested he phoned his mate because we had nearly run out of fuel. No chance, another two rounds, and then he finally called to ask for instructions.

We arrived at the restaurant. Very large building, waitresses and waiters wearing 'Mexican' hats, the room decorated in what was probably 'Mexican style'.
Had a look at the menue: they offered a buffet. Nearly all food on the list contained beef. I don't eat beef.
OK, no problem, as I wasn't very hungry anyway. I asked for some small dish from the menu. No luck - buffet only on Sundays. OK, so I said in that case, I wouldn't eat at all. Protest from our hosts, and a very unfriendly: So why did you come in the first place? from the husband.

Gulp.

OK, I didn't want to be a spoilsport, so I agreed to let them pay for a full meal for me - knowing fair well that it wouldn't be worth the price. Went to look at the non-beef dishes: there was absolutely nothing I fancied eating.
While I was still looking, the husband advised me to 'pull myself together'.
Yeah, right.

I went back to the table with some bread and butter, half a jacket potato and some curd, a spoonful of undefiable been mash, and a spoonful of 'Mexican' rice. smiley - erm

The beer was good, as was most of the company.

When I looked for the toilet, the husband asked: what, you already need to go to the toilet?

Until then, I hadn't been aware that I had to time that somehow until the husband thought it was convenient, or we had been there for long enough or whatever.

He later apologised for his behaviour, but it all just reminded me of why I don't like to go somewhere with him in the first place.

I don't associate Mexican food with only beef, so it's quite excusable you not anticipating that.

Was it a chain? Usually if someone comes into my smiley - chef's place and they don't what's on the buffet, he will usually huff-and-puff a bit, but will cook them something. If it's a chain, I assume they just open packets and don't have much scope for improvisation.

To be honest, I associate Mexican food with tortillas etc, I'd never have guessed they only served beef.
I don't know if it's a chain, I've certainly never heard of them before. Here's a link:

Oh, B'El,

What a shame. Haven't been anywhere with my other half in years. I can probably count on one hand the times we have been out together. Don't like foursomes either.

Why won't men admit to being lost? I thought it was women who couldn't navigate!!

Hope you have recovered from that and all your work on smiley - thepost

smiley - cheerup it comes to all of us eventually smiley - smiley How long you been married - 35 years here, longer than a life sentence as they say here.

looks like it could be a chain

anyway, having looked at their (boring) menu - you could not have concluded that Sunday night is beef night.

Webby, we've been married for 20 years now (we will be in April), and together for nearlöy 26 years.

Sho, if you google for Crazy Cactus Klein Auheim, there's a Link starting USA kulinarisch - and the first crit could have been written by me. Seems it's a USA chain.

And I had a look at their website now - nowhere do they mention that it's buffet only on Sundays. You know, if it hadn't been so far away, and if we hadn't been invited etc, I'd just have turned and left when they refused to serve me a small meal off the menu.

if you click their Speisen link, you get the message that there is a buffet on Sundays - but it doesn't mention that it's only buffet.

But then - I'm not a fan of chains. Unless they have Gordon Ramsay's name in the title smiley - loveblush

I think there are very few Mexican or TexMex restaurants here that aren't part of a chain. Unfortunately.

A new one opened up in our town recently - I may have to give them a go (and #1 Gruesome is totally addicted to Guacamole)

He surprised me when he apologised. But then I had not turned on my heels and walked out of the restaurant, which probably counted in my favour. smiley - winkeye
