Phew - narrow escape there! I dropped my laptop last night while chasing mischevious Mini (that's my Minerva, not our own chessemouse), and the screen went completely blank! I wisely put it away for the night, and fired it up this morning, expecting the worst, but pleasantly surprised to find everything working! Huzzah!
Married life - in under 3 weeks I shall be a Missus (again), but circumstances are forcing us to postpone the celebration party
But that'll be something to look forward to in the New Year

*eyes pot plant warily* How...unexpected to see Styx again!
This week, I have been at the theatre every evening, but not in the show for once. I had my first go at directing, which is a fascinating, frustrating, terrifying and rewarding experience. I'll probably have another go, but definitely prefer being up on the stage. Really strange to sit and watch the show and know there's nothing I can do if things go wrong...

I'm back.
Not that you'll have noticed my absence, but my account does random things, so I've ended up with a blank page instead of with my PS a couple of times now. I won't go and change my screen name* now, that's for sure.
*apparently that's what is causing the problem.

Morning all. I feel inspired to do an h2g2 logo pumpkin this weekend. Er. Next weekend. Um, when it's The Time, you know.
Dis you notice. This week is Week 42.

Those pumpkin lantern pictures are amazing.
Where I come from, it's more traditional to have a Neepie Lantern - one made out of a swede. They're not easy to carve.
The smell of burning neep reminds me of childhood Hallowe'ens.
It wasn't a good year for pumpkins, squashes or courgettes in this part of the world. We only have one small pumpkin and two small butternuts
I did wonder where you were, Bel.
And where's Sol?

I'm so glad you got your account back, Teuchter.
I felt forlorn, and I was only locked out over night, when I slept through most of it anyway.

Hee hee.
We had Swede cake once.... Hot, it tasted disgusting. Cold, you wouldn't have known it wasn't carrot cake.

Blimey, scary backlog and a half after a busy week when I hadn't the energy to go online every day. Good to see so many people returned and active though
I'm tempted by the NoJoPoMo idea. I need something to kick start me back into writing and my poor journal has been sadly neglected for the last few years.
Did Phil or I mention the Cider Making and Apple festivals we attended in Hereford last weekend? Hereford cathedral has acknowledged the area's apple orchard tradition with a rather lovely large apple tree mosaic pavement in the cathedral grounds. To celebrate its completion they had an apple fair with stalls, morris dancers and folk & medieval musicians inside the cathedral. A free shuttle bus (ie tractor and trailer) transferred people to the cider museum for more of the same but with more emphasis on cider makers. I spent rather more than anticipated but we now have a good book on craft cider making to help us make something palatable out of all the apples we have in the house. Apple Day is a grand addition to traditional English seasonal festivities.

Turnip lanterns was the norm for us, but the smell !
With the plethora of pumpkins in the shops now, though, it's a no-brainer. Easy to carve and spicy pumpkin soup later on. Yum.

SC:
"part of my dismay was that I was afraid that the hunters might shoot each other by accident, happens all the time during deer season. At least a trank dart is a little forgiving."
I'm pretty sure I still don't want to be hit by something intended to knock out a Bengal tiger.
