Sorry, I've not posted for a week, but have just spent a while catching up on the thread, mostly weather reports. I had quite a bit - four inches in our back garden. Quite a bit for us, that is. I recognise that to many other Salonistas, four inches of snow is barely worth noticing! It did bring things to a halt here, and even the university closed for 2 days, though on the first of those days, a few library people made it in before the decision was made, so we opened up the building and switched everything on, only to have to switch it all off again and go home half an hour later - there weren't enough security staff around to be allowed to remain open.
We've had a series of incidents in our house. First, the macerator fused, which means we can't use the shower room, only the main bathroom. Not a huge problem. Then the freezer died, because it got too cold. Then we had a power cut. The power is back, and we have managed to heat the freezer enough to get it to work again. We did have 2 days of "cuisine de defrosting stuff" though.
I have a job interview next Monday, for an academic support librarian at our North Kent campus, a campus where three universities work together. This is jolly exciting. I have to do an information skills teaching session in addition to the interview.

Grr. I knew I'd forget something - renewable energy. We wanted to put solar panels on our house, but we're not allowed to, as we live in a conservation area. For the front half of the property, which is Georgian, we can understand that, but it is annoying that we can't even put them on the bit of the house that was only built 25 years ago.
My back muscles hurt a lot. I blame the cold - our heating needs electricity to work, so the powercut left us without heating when the temperature was well below freezing. Brr. Temperatures of 2 or 3 centigrade which we are now experiencing seem positively balmy!

Sorry your November was carp, Mol. When I go through bad patches I try to remind myself that things have to improve.
Good luck with the job, David. I have fingers and toes crossed for you.
I'm also hoping Z gets to give his scheduled lecture today.
The visitation/funeral yesterday was pretty upbeat, as those things go. My cousin had an inherited disease that is one of the bad ones. It robbed him of many, many years of 'normal' exsistence. I think everyone is glad it's over, for both his sake and his wife's and family's.

Evening All
Frosty but dry over here.
Chicken gently roasting in the oven, spuds about to go into the oven, gravy and veg, job done.

Just checker in for Amsterdam tomorrow - not a bad trip, back again tomorrow evening. Now out to do some snow shovelling - pics on FB (for those so inclined) pretty much suggest why...

I have been beating back the laundry monster all day. Trying to get some ambition. I need to keep things clean around here because I am likely to have the GF move in some time. She's here all the time anyway. Anyone have thoughts, advice on the matter?

[Thanksgiving over, very nice; scifi convention over, very nice; house tenting with included evacuation over, very UGH; breaking in new business computer, ]
Hope the snow has melted from the Scottish highlands to northern Europe, by now. , it's cold and raining steadily here in LaLa Land. Still wading through backlog, be back soon.

*nibbles rice crisp treat* Lentilla!
Still a bit on the blue scale of the emotional spectrum, but not too bad.
The early winter seems to be thawing a bit at the moment. I just hope that the streets won't turn to ice when it gets cold again in the next few days. It's pretty when it's white out, but icy sleet and driving doesn't mix. So I walk to work

Titania (gone for lunch) Posted Dec 6, 2010
We had lots of more snow during the weekend. This morning only the roads had been ploughed, during the night, and it had continued snowing after that, so pretty mushy. More than ankle deep of new snow on all pathways and pavements, so I decided to be lazy and take the bus from the nearest bus stop and then switch to my regular bus. Hah! No bus. Had to wade through the snow to the bus stop I usually walk to in about 12-13 minutes. And wait. And wait. Oh well, I got to w*rk eventually, but car owners weren't too happy when met by this sight this morning:

Afternoon All
Chrystal clear but still chilly on the willy.
Ventured out and about to do a couple of little jobs. Slowly getting back to normal.

We're still fairly white: the snow on the pavements went slushy yesterday, but now it's frozen again we're at the 'hello skating rink' stage.
