Good news Marv.
Suffering from listlessness today. Of course, there are any number of things I could be doing...

Yay Marv! Sometimesit takes a long time to find that perfectly compatible person. But when you do, it's .
Sol, enjoy your "me time" and don't feel guilty about doing nothing sometims. We all need to recharge our batteries now and then.
We've been invaded by beetles. There are so many of them it looks positively Biblical. They took one neighbor's beans and the lady on the other side of me had literally thousands of them on her shrubbry. I garden organically and have far fewer problems than the others. You'd expect the opposite. Go figure. Even if I did use insecticides, I wouldn't this year becuse the pups are still pretty young and into everything. Anyway, I've lost two squash plants to those boring worms, but nothing to beetles.
Back to work today. It's going to be a busy week again.

What sort of beetles, Hyp? Curious owls need to know these things!

Japanese beetles, David.

Yesterday I went next door to check on my neighbor's dog -- she was out of town for a couple of days -- and there were probably 500 of them clinging to this huge rock she has near my carport. So I put Sevin on them and it killed them.

So they're not Paul, Ringo and VW Beatles then? (John and George already having popped their clogs).

So I decided to iron whilst watching the Tour de France. How decadent.

I once spent a summer in the Russian backwoods being crawled over by colerado beetles. Quite odd considering there were some scary ass posters against them in my childhood in the uk.
'Course the Russians were told the us had dropped them on them in clandestine bombing raids.

Why not? We tried to kill Castro with a cigar. At this point, I'd believe any story about yet another crazy CIA plot during the Cold War.

Nice looking beetles, though I can see why you wouldn't want them around.

It's frustrating to plant vegetables only to have them seriously damaged or killed before you can harvest them. So I do sympathize with people who use herbicides and pesticides, especially people whose livlihood depends on their crops.
I need to learn more about organic pesticides. Just what I need, another project.
Z, is this the stripey beet you're growing?

I've always wondered if the stripes remain when they're cooked or pickled or if the red bleeds into them.

I know lots of people on the Isle of Wight who state hand-on-heart that the Germans dropped Colorado Beetles on the Island during the war. They claim that Germany dropped special cardboard bombs containing between 50 and 100 Colorado beetles on the Isle of Wight. Although German scientists did considered employing potato beetles for crop destruction, no other evidence of bombing raids containing them exists.
The Beatles, however, did invade the Island, most recently a few weeks ago when Paul McCartney performed at the Isle of Wight Festival.
