Hi, there.
*gets some orange juice from the fridge*
Titania, I can't help you with the coffee recipe, either. Sorry.
Phil, what can I say but... boogie down.

Hi Witty, Titania, all.
l've been in and out of here so much lately and not making proper exits and entrances. l really do have to remedy that...
Here. Let me try this.
*pops out the door, goes down the lift, and merges with the self of hers which is just staggering up from Celery's party, and goes back up to the Atelier*
*Odra walks through the door again, looking a trifle hungover and holding a half-finished screwdriver*
Hi Witty, Titania, all.
*smiles*
Better.

Hi Odra!
Is the party still going on?
I really admire your remarkable capacity, always around, everywhere..

*drifiting off*
*floating back in, after a quick look at the party*
Still rather quite over there, isn't it? I think I'll leave my party self dozing in that armchair until people start stirring..

lt has been quite crazy what with threads and all lately...l think l'm going to have to respectfully to decline to join up with Survivor, though, much as l hate to say it. l couldn't possibly catch up with all the action now, and l imagine if they've done voting yet l've been ousted already...
Ah well. Plenty left to keep me busy, though. l think l'd have made more of an effort to join into the thread if all the usual crazy half-unrealistic antics l and the rest of the initial Aroma Cafe crew pull off were made permissible on the island -- high explosives, that sort of thing.
And they even split us all up! Lintilla, ox and eatsmice were all on one team, and l on another....and l couldn't have brought myself to inflict such requisite malice on them....
Well, l might've been persuaded...but still...
*makes herself another screwdriver; Digi sits at her feet*

Survivor? Is it on TV as well (besides the h2g2-version)? Your description sounds a lot like the competitions we had on Swedish TV called 'Robinson'.
I heard they managed to export the program idea to several European TV-companies...

lt's on television here (here being the US) as well, yes, under the Survivor name. l haven't been following it, but l think it's still ongoing.
l think we Americans actually stole the idea from -- was it the UK? Somewhere in Europe, l think. Now, did they get the idea from Sweden?
(wow...third-hand-recycled television show ideas...how incestuous the entertainment/media industry has gotten...)

Yes, the US version is based on the Swedish original. Seems Hollywood can't come up with any original ideas of their own, anymore. They just want a sure thing, guaranteed success.
However, they did give psychological testing to the applicants, since one of the Swedes committed suicide after being voted off that island.

There was a lot of discussions on the rules here. There were two teams on an island, and at first the team who had won a quest voted for a person from the other team, who was forced to leave the island. This of course lead to everyone voting away the best competitors, leaving only real looser type of people.
Then the rules were changed, so that the loosing team had to vote away one of their own, which was a bit tougher, mentally. To begin with, people voted for the least popular person, and felt guilty about that, and the person voted for didn't feel too well, either, knowing nobody liked her/him.
After some time people started voting away the strongest member of their group, because in the end there could be only one winner, and they wanted to keep people they thought they could beat in the finals.
Winning tactics would look like this: first make yourself popular, then appear weak and useless, and then giving it all in the finals,

There is also the current Big Brother thing going on on UK tv (Channel 4). There the contestants live together in a house, which has 24hr webcam survelance. The contestants vote for 2 who may get evicted and then a telephone poll is used. The team have to order everything from big brother and they can only leave the house and garden when they get evicted.
Not really my kind of TV (but then again, not a lot is).

I only watch Survivor occasionally, and haven't seen that "big brother" thing yet. I prefer game shows with less psycological trauma involved.
I'll probably be offline for a few days. Hopefully the backlog will be easy to sift through.

*floating in, noticing Lil still isn't back*
Springie, come here!
*Springie leaps across floor, jumps up into Titania's arms*
Titania: Are you hungry, Springie?
Springie: Meep!

Well a quiet friday evening here. Hope the weekend will be as quiet so I can catch up with the backlog as a friend is coming down for the weekend - beer and art (GBBF and the new Tate Modern) are the main events.
Flamenco in Stockholm 5 & 7-11 August
Titania (gone for lunch) Posted Aug 4, 2000
RL: If you are in Stockholm (Sweden) during the time 5 or 7-11 August, I warmly recommend you to see the flamenco performance "Al Aire" in Vitabergsparken 7 pm. Outdoor stage, wooden benches, free entrance, come early if you want a seat.
Key: Complain about this post
