It's three in the morning. I have been trying to get together the effort to do somewhat urgent lab writeup work for six hours and done nothing. I am alternating between not bothering to eat and gorging and I am uncomfortable aware of half a chocolate cake in the cupboard downstairs, provided by The Boy, and of the unlikelihood of doing any work again ever.
I was doing so well on the new meds! Why did I have to go and have a migraine and revert to being pure fail?

Thank you all for the compliments. I am very pleased and have had to forcibly stop staring at it several times today in order to be polite to my friends. Otherwise, I think I'd be completely absorbed.
MR, I'm thinking about heading out Cali way depending on how the job hunt goes. How far out are you planning the inking expedition?

It's a lovely tattoo. I still don't want to put ink on my own body, but I can appreciate them on others.
Facebook is a highly stylized sort of identity, isn't it? I mean, it's not the best avenue for a protracted or complex conversation. It's more like a continually evolving tattoo.

I actually don't know. It would depend entirely on co-ordinating several insanely busy people's schedules. So it may be a bit.

Thanks for all the well wishing. I had a job interview yesterday. I didn't get it though. Shame, as bits of it went rather better than I was hoping for. Still, at least I know what to expect from these things now. I hate not knowing what to expect.

I think both facebook and twitter are designed for meaningless sociability, like hanging around with your pals in a pub that's too loud for talking in. It's friendly but part of the attraction seems to be just how undemanding it is. I disagree with Billy Joel about clever conversation. I much prefer it to the inaudible sort.
In other news, I've booked some time in the Apple store in Glasgow on Sunday. I want to try out some of the speakers. I've still not got around to ordering my new iPod, but I don't want to spend as much as speakers cost on spec. I can load up my Shuffle for the test drive.

Poot! I meant to say that I'm sorry to hear about the interview Sol. Good idea to regard it as a practice run though.

Philosophical is my middle name. Actually, I am a bit miffed as the reason I didn't get the job wasn't the reason I thought I wouldn't get the job. I thought I wouldn't get the job because I wasn't academic enough for them. I didn't get the job because they prefered someone else. And I didn't praise the students enough, a teaching mistake so elemental, I go hot with embarrassment every time I think about it.
If I do say so myself though, the lesson I planned was superb. And I'd been so worried it wouldn't work. One probably shouldn't experiment in job interviews, but since I didn't get the job anyway...

Wonderfully silly conversation on the last page.
I just d my porridge across the keyboard.
Sorry you didn't get the job, Sol. It sounds like, with a wee bit of tweaking, you'll be a dead cert for the next vacancy
I joined Facebook recently too. I'd agree with Ben that it's fairly superficial and use it mainly for putting wee bits of inconsequentiality that wouldn't fit anywhere else.
If anyone's interested - they can find me via the name I use for emails.
Facebook clocked up its fifth birthday yesterday.
Glad you enjoyed that link to Sungha Jung, Lentilla. Can you imagine how good that wee guy's going to be in another few years?
IIEM - could you give me something that'll re-adjust my blood/caffeine levels to bring me up to operating sensibly levels?

It's snowing again. Looks quite heavy, though it hasn't settled much yet.

I can't find either of you Teuchter or Minicheesemouse based on what I think your email addresses are. Teuchter, you can track me down there I am sure.
Runescribe, I meant to say bad luck about the migraine - but persevere. It took a while for my doc and me to work out a combination of meds that suit, and the result is that I've been able to work my nuts off this month and not be ill. Astonishing.

Any salonista is welcome to track me down - I didn't mean you wouldn't be welcome to find me on Facebook Mini, just that Teuchter knows enough of my guilty secrets to be able to do it with ease.
There are times when I hate the fact that you can't edit h2 posts.

It would help if I could read, Mini! Gotcha!
It is indeed, Teuchter. Though it's a bit odd without them.

The absolutely best iPod speaker-thingy I've heard is unfortunately also a wee bit pricey: the Bose Sounddock. I tried it with my own iPod in a store in the US - the room was rather large, probably 6x8 m or even more, and the Sounddock played it up close to loud enough to partying without losing any quality. Rock, delicate jazz - everything just was clear and undistorted.
And I didn't buy it, silly me... Mainly because we don't really have the need at home - the iPods of the house generally play off a dock connectde to the stereo downstairs that has speakers in the office/library and in the kitchen. But should I need such a set, I'd go for that Bose thing even if I'd have to wait a bit to have the spare cash.
(btw, it's not a good traveller's set, admittedly, as it's too large for that)
