Happy holidays, mini. *waves*
I stopped sending Christmas cards at least 15 years ago. For years I made my own. Then one year, I simply didn't have time. Instead, I sent out some really lovely ones from the card shop. Nearly every person complained to me how disappointed they were that I sent store-bought cards. Some went so far as to warn me not to let it happen again. So I haven't. I haven't sent out a single card since. And know what? It's WONDERFUL. One less thing to worry about every year.
Did I mention that I can be pretty bull-headed and downright contrary at times? *hanging head in shame*
On another "Why do I even bother?" front, I have had two more cancellations for the library holiday potluck tonight. This follows three yesterday and two the day before. So it will be a small group trying to eat avery large amount of food. This may very well be the last one. At least therfe will be so many leftovers that none of will have to cook for several days.
Good luck with the job, Marv.

Happy Holidays mini!
We have a near whiteout condition at work right now. Traffic could be fun this afternoon.

Perhaps your card recipients were trying to compliment you Hyp.
There were two years when I sent out no cards - but then people began not sending them to me.
Now I send them to extended family and people I'm not in touch with on-line, and that's about it.
All done now - just need to post them! And then there's the ones for my neighbours, but I'm certainly not doing them till next week.

I send out a few cards, mostly to family who don't "do" online stuff.
Thinking about that, what do you all think of the letter people send with cards? I'm thinking, given the big changes D and I have had this year, it might not be a bad idea, but I don't know...

The round robin? Some are awful, some are interesting. We don't do them - I tend to hand-write a sentence or two in each card but I like reading other people's ones. Caused a row between some very good friends last year when I remarked that He must have had a quiet year compared to Her and the kids as he was hardly mentioned, and He turned to Her and said 'See?' in that we'll-discuss-this-later kind of way. Ooops.
Wrote 30 cards this afternoon, and adressed 20 of them (hand-delivering the others). It isn't everyone on our list, and I have refused to do the ones for J's family that I write every year and then he fails to get their addresses and we end up throwing them away. I said I'd do them if he gets the addresses first. Think that is going to be it - everyone else can have a new baby announcement if #2 ever decides to put in an appearance...
Hyp, I admire your stance on the cards, I wanted to not bother this year but J insisted. Note, he insisted *I* do them. He dozed on the sofa while I was writing them. I will have my revenge though.

I gave up sending out proper cards a few years ago. This year I sent an email one to people on my list, plus I'm making a donation to Azahar. I shall dig out the link presently.
Wonderful full moon here - Max woke me at 3.30 and I started singing
the moon doth shine as bright as day.
Spent the rest of the day at the Zoo - wrapping presents for the chimps, decorating a tree for the elephant (with chunks of banana and orange) and seeing Santa! He says the key to receivng gifts on Christmas Eve is keeping your bedrooms tidy - so now you know.

MR, I think you should. As you say, a lot has happened this year. And you can be trusted not to write with the teeth-grating arch breathlessness that makes the cringe-worthy ones worthy of cringes. I like getting people's news, I must admit.
I'm impressed by your industriousness Kelli.
Why to I find it so hard to throw away crap? What on earth makes me think I'll ever need a stack of 3x5 index cards? Why can't I just THROW THEM AWAY?

I have similar items that I've carted around for years, from address to address. I'm slowly purging them, have done very well in the last move and alright in the move before that.
Regarding holiday cards, I may do them for the first time this year. Hadn't thought of hand making them. I don't think I'm that crafty yet. I am, however, purchasing a mix pack from a web cartoonist. So at least no one will complain that they are Hallmark/ Store bought. Who complains about the quality if the Xmas cards they receive anyway?

Cards? I suppose I should get round to writing them and sending them out.
The ant colony interior was amazing, but it's kind of weird hearing an American voice on a nature documentary. We get lots of Americans on TV, but they're usually shouting at each other or crying about emotions.

I've sent cards a few times in my adult life, but it was never something I enjoyed doing, so I stopped. I'll give a card to my grandmother. That's about it.
I missed the moon last night, thanks to a snowstorm. It hit the valley early yesterday evening and isn't expected to leave until tonight. We have four inches on the ground, and I blundered into a few eight-inch drifts on my way to get my newspaper this morning.

I was going to forego cards this year, but there are a lot of friends that i will be meeting this week who i havent seen for months and i want to give them cards, so i have bought a box of 20 and have so far given one to Lizzie my old flatmate, and one to my friend James.

Cards from a web cartoonist sound interesting, Irv. Care to share a link?
My Ma used to put the cards we received that had been sold in aid of charity in one bookshelf, cards that didn't make any kind of donation to charity in the other, and hand made cards on the mantlepiece. I did like the gradual build-up of cards during December, culminating in putting up the tree on Christmas Eve.
*feels all nostalgic*

Putting up the tree on Christmas Eve? Are there any trees left by then? We always did it a bit in advance. My parents bought theirs this morning, in fact.
Regarding the cards I'm planning on sending out, here is the mix pack: http://www.positivethinkers.net/collections/frontpage/products/2008-holiday-mix-pack

#2 and I went to our regular Christmas tree farm this afternoon and got our tree. The beauty of a fresh cut tree is that we can put it up today and it will last through New Year's Day with nary a needle dropped.
And it was fun to snap a pic with my phone of the tree before it was cut and email it to #1.

The only thing stopping me feel very smug is the fact I've lost my niece's present.
Other than that, I'm done. Which is amazing.
