Woo hoo everyone!
*sits down feeling very snug and comfy in the blue mohair trousies - it's an arse as wide as all outdoors*
Been on a training course today, and had a remarkably pleasant time. In theory we aren't allowed to have refreshments in meetings any more, but we had rather good Fox's chocolate biccies. That's my sort of credit crunch.

Incididdly - does anyone have any views on brands of Sat Nav?
I want something that I can hide under the empties in the footwell and that will update itself regularly with new roads and things. I'm not too bothered about being told about speed cameras: I do want to retain some driving skills myself. Ideally I'd like one that I can tell to stick to the main roads. An artic got stuck in the lane yesterday and I'm ashamed to admit that three of us stood outside last night, sniffing the air, watching the sunset and listening to the sweet sound of rubber failing to grip on mud.

{over his shoulder} ...uldn't have missed some of the convo. {looks up} Like the George Carlin thing. So focused on stuff at home I completely missed his passing.
Just thankful we have Ilya in the world now. ~That's~ a magnificent addition. Sol, you'll have to let me know if I can come over and tickle his little chin to elicit a smile.
Speaking of kids, we visited ours for the Independence Day holiday. Went to St Louis (St Peters) to our No.2 Son's home, where he lives with his fiancee and her three girls. R--- and L--- make a wonderful couple (as well as a balanced set of directions), and their home is so tidy! My wife, A---, gave me a look like "Why can't ~we~ seem to keep our place this nice?" when she got the 'nickel and dime' tour. Time for me to pull a little extra duty...
So, we're there for the food and the fun and the fellowship, and R--- pipes up and asks, "When do you want to hook up the Wii, Dad?" Yeah, we indulged recently, and he got word of it, and we took it along, and when most folks had eaten we made space to attach it and play. Not just the bunch of kids at the party, but most of the adults, as well. Bowling was the big draw, but there were also rounds of golf, Mario Kart, and tennis. I missed the discussion on last thread (though I'm going to review it) about this game system, but as for our family--we like it! It's got us playing games together (vice in separate rooms on separate computers) and my wife and I are starting a regimen of WiiFit now we added the Balance Board. I know this is still an intermediate step toward 'total immersion' in the gaming experience, but it's definitely one of the best uses for a game console I've yet found.

I wish Wii Fit wouldn't nag me when I leave it a couple of days between sessions. It's as if it doesn't want me to spend my time slumped on the settee playing Okami.
Ben - I remember an icy day when I was in the warehouse when we stood and watched a big artic attempting to manoeuvre but just ending up sliding around. Very cathartic. How's stuff out that way in general?

Oh and does anyone know what you put in a letter to give notice of leaving a job? I don't remember ever writing one before.

Irving Washington Posted Jul 7, 2008
That depends on whether you want positive references later, Bagpuss.

My letter of resignation for my current job will likely include many colorful metaphors, Bagpuss. If you've enjoyed your job, however, you may want to thank people for a lovely work experience and let them know you have decided to move on.

I'd write two letters, if you didn't like the job. The first one you send as a normal letter of resignation, "thank you so much for the experience" "pleasure working for the company" etc. The second you send after you've already secured another job, have worked at least a week, and know you've gotten the references you wanted. That one would be more... honest.

Ah yes, to quote a favourite webcomic: "Is 'Dear Donkeyface' too formal?" I'm not really intending to go down that route.
Key: Complain about this post
