Well done Sol!
Congrats Ag!
Ah yes, meant to ~wave~ to Mol too...
Yay, last w*rking day before Easter (and just a half day at that!) - whopeee!
As usual, I'll spend Easter at mother's being thoroughly spoilt with lamb casserole and smoked salmon... so I probably won't be online much - unless I can make my broadband work from her place...

Hello Mol
Yup it's gray and dismal here and a bit breezy as well. Who's idea was it to have easter this early anyway?
Well done Sol for the A.
To you as well Ag for managing to get through the meal. The one time I've been taken to a very, very posh restaurant the things just kept on coming! Even between courses a very small thing would be presented. It would have been interesting to have done the 12 course gourmet tasting menu though (you just had to order and were brought the stuff out and then told what you were getting!)

I like to think that i am open to all sorts of cultures and have never thought , that just because somebody did things differently to me , they were wrong . However not liking tea and marmite is just not right . I could live in most countries around the world as long as i had access to marmite butties and mugs of builders tea .
best fishes.....tod

I'll be quite happy if next Tuesday is dry and sunny, as my son my dog and I are climbing Slieve Donard that day (NI's highest peak)
It is pretty grey and damp today, but I have a long list of thingstodoaroundthehouse which I can make a start on. Plus tonight House and Greys Anatomy are back!!!!

I'm seriously thinking about going skiing on Easter. Can you tell spring isn't quite here yet? It snowed last night!
Speaking of marmite, does anyone else here watch Top Chef? Last week, the chef from New Zealand made a Chicago-style deep dish pizza with marmite as one of the toppings. The judges thought it was quite good.

to Ag. As slightly tipsy rants go you made a lot of good points. My own experience of living in a foreign country was a lot easier because I was in Canada where they speak English (more or less) and I was at university where there's a lot of people who are new and so trying to make friends. However, there were still a lot of minor details to get used to and things I missed. I got homesick a couple of times, but fortunately my friends put up with my moans about how crap things are in Canada (which wasn't true, but was how I felt that day).
I'm feeling quite flush at the moment as my housemate and I have just worked out who owes what over bills. This was made possible by him being (a) in a good mood, and (b) not or affected by not-oregano. The trick now is to keep him straight on all future bills.

Could I have a backlog exemption pass, please?
I have had the sinus infection from hell. I missed a week and a half of work - would have taken a few more days, but everyone else here is sick, too. To let you know how bad my head hurt, that is more sick days than I have taken combined in the last 13 years.
Then last week a good friend had an accident cleaning up some brush, fell and crushed his skull. There wasn't anything they could do. He was brain dead by the time they got him to the hospital. *sigh* His funeral was Saturday.
The only nice thing that happened since I've been here is that Lady C came for a visit last weekend. I was pretty lousy company, but she understood.
We missed the worst of the rain. We only had 4.5 inches.

It's good to hear from you, Hyp. I was just getting ready to check up on you via email, I was wondering how that awful weather was affecting you. I am sorry about your friend, that is just awful.
I'm glad you are starting to feel better.

That's awful news about your friend, Hyp
Hope the sinus problem resolves soon. It's been going on for tooooo long and is such a nasty thing to suffer; no matter where you put your head it hurts like heckity.
Jolly Well Done on the A, Sol - and congratters on the anniversary, Ag. I'm sitting here drooling at the thought of all that scrummy food - am v hungry and am still on salad rations to try and shed the avoirdupois someone gave me for Xmas
Don't get me wrong - I love salad and fresh veg but just at this moment, I would contemplate murder for some deep fried carbohydrates of some sort.
I've been following the discussion on immigration and racial differences and don't have anything much to add.

I'm glad you are feeling a bit better now, Hyp, but how awful about your friend.
Congratulations Ag and S!
And a very to the point point, too. I think I actively resisted assimilating in Russia for example. Of course, I never meant to stay quite that long, but considering the 7 years I spent there, you'd have thought I'd have done a bit better with the language at least.
And there were some things I just refused to do to fit in, and interestingly at least one of those things was to do with changing the way I dressed, my outward appearance to conform beter to the norm there.
The thing I feel most embarrased about when it comes to other people's attitudes to B and living here is that there was never the pressure on me to fit in. Of course, that was partly because of where I worked: part of the reason I had my job was to perform as The Foreigner. Still.

I dressed in a non-comformist fashion for most of my childhood, but mostly because I had no fashion sense and no money to spend on fashion... Now that I'm older, I find that as long as the clothing is clean, without stains, and unwrinkled, I don't care all that much. Except when I go out for beer!

Mr. Dreadful - But really I'm not actually your friend, but I am... Posted Mar 20, 2008
*Tipetoes around the backlog*
Phew! The New Job is really starting to show its teeth. I don't think I've managed to leave on time at all this week... was in 'til 7pm yesterday! Bit of a shock after the lengthy period of getting paid to surf the net that was my last few months at Royal Mail.
In other news I have signed up for what might be the most awesome thing ever... a great big pirate roleplay event: http://www.scurvyscum.com

So what will you be, Dreadful? Pirate, outlaw, trapper, bandit, or militia?
