One of today's customers needs to be taught not to snatch. I now have a bruised thumb.

Good write-up, Hyp. I must finish my one of last year some time.

smiley - applause for Cliquot! That is an awesome feat for a cat. I want mine to learn that, too. Squeaky Joe likes to watch the toilet flush, but he can't even figure out the cat door, so I don't hold out very high hopes.

Hypatia, thank you very much for scribing. smiley - grovel

Yesterday I started a new odd-job, watering the gardens of a woman who lives about 15 miles away, in Tinnie, while she is on holiday. She is, as it happens, a daughter-in-law of Joel McCrea.
http://www.nndb.com/people/716/000042590/
(who had more than one son: the younger one, my employer's husband, has always been a rancher. Joel bought a big spread here in SE NM)

Today I exercised her water rights; their home has the main acequia (ah SAY key ah) for the Hondo Valley running through the back gardens, and on Fridays she is allowed to divert the water from 6 am to 6 pm. It was very cool to operate centuries-old equipment, to lower the gate on the main ditch and open the gate to the diversion and watch the water slowly flood the orchard lawns.

Her gardens are gorgeous and I will take my camera tomorrow morning.

Oh, an acequia is an irrigation canal.

Lil, when I were but a lad I got to play with our irrigation system. I loved creating the flows all over the farmstead. In retrospect it would have been perfect for a toy sailboat.

Baggers, snatch what? Was there an attempted petty theft? And you foiled it?

Wow! That's just amazing... I once had a kit for teaching kitty how to use the toilet instead of the box. It came with a plastic insert which you filled with litter, and placed inside the toilet. Kitty was to be placed on the toilet when it was time, and he would learn that the toilet was the place to go... Well, we placed kitty on the toilet, and when the urine hit the plastic insert, the litter rattled and scared him, so he jumped off the toilet, scattering urine and litter everywhere. That was the last time we tried to train him to do anything.

> Squeaky Joe likes to watch the toilet flush

Yup - ours would stand on the toilet and dab at the hole where the water spiraled down, and then run away in terror as it filled back up.

Tomcats.

Okay, so I can't find anything that says how much rain we've gotten for this year. Apart from some woman in Dallas telling me they've had 40", which is a lot, but which doesn't seem likely. One of my co-workers tells me we've got close to 18" - which will break all the records we've had for rainfall.

No, snatch as in grab his fifty pence piece from my hand with unnecessary speed and force. Admittedly he was annoyed because I wouldn't let him jump the queue even if he was only buying a paper and just wanted to throw his money on the counter and leave.

STRANGELY STRANGE ( A brain on a spring )

I just noticed while watching this live "Saving Planet Earth" concert now that Avril Lavine(sp?) is on a stage in Kew Gardens in England. It seems surreal even if Kew Gardens is into conservation.

Okay, finally found a real statistic - 36.34 inches of rain between now and January 1st.

I'd rather see Avril Levigne do her part for global warming than, say, Toby Keith.

All my cat ever did was try and bring me dinner.

Off up to Blackpool to have a nose around, view a few flats and a 1 bed house. (How does that work?) anyway smiley - 2cents will be tight until I let this house, but I should be able to manage.

Sol

I am dedicated my weekend to art. My choir is having its concert. Which is a tad annoying as I wanted to go the the Tour de France's prologue race too. Still.

We're singing a Bach piece. I should be listening to it, but I'm not. I don't know half the notes. The conductor wants us to be vigourous. I am vigourously hitting the wring notes in the wrong rythym. Ah well.

Fear not, Sol. I shall plant myself in the front row and gesticulate vigorously in the wrong time too. Bad habit. Sorry. If it's any consolation, it'll annoy S more than it could possibly annoy you.

I'm very impressed both that Cliquot is toilet-trained, and that you called the cat Cliquot. Tres cool.

I watched a bit of the BBC coverage of the Hampton Court Flower Show. I even saw a relation sof mine, the Agapanthus 'Black Buddhist' http://www.hayloft-plants.co.uk/content.aspx?page=prod1986: Note black stems? Cool, huh?

Bagpuss - did snatchy guy apologise for squashing your thumb? If not, do you want me to come round and belt him one?

Z - I'd be fascinated to see what you think of Blackpool. I've only been once adn it was one of the more surreal three days of my life. Admittedly I was trapped in the Winter Gardens for most of it, in a boiling ant-heap of politically minded students.

I've eaten dead frog. Not necessarily dragged in by cat, mind. And it had been deep-fried, which is rather beyond even toilet-using cats.

It was disgusting.

Lentilla, unless I am gravely mistaken, the vast majority of the dancers are Salish-Kootenai. (And I could be gravely mistaken, but knowing my MT history...)
