I didn't look at the spider link. Have only had one cup of coffee. Otherwise I'm the spider rescuer in this house. They only annoy me when they come marching over the duvet hairy-legged and wearing clogs.
Son 18 is afraid of spiders and I have to remove them from his room and throw them outside. I keep telling him that if he cleans his room regularily, the spiders won't have half the chance of surviving. But does he listen....(and more importantly: act on the information)?
Good to know Lady and Lord C are safe. Oil/diesel close to drinking water .

Big spiders. A little too big for taking calmly and in stride. I regularily try to tell 14 that having a few spiders in your room is OK. They rid you of some of the ohter crawl that might be bothersome. I still catch and transport critters out of her room to liberty outside with reasonable intervals, though. Anyone has other character building stories I can tell her)
(and no, won't try shock therapy with these piccies!)
Had a "why are people so rude, selfish and, grumph, entirely without manners" morning. Mostly due to a couple of eejits in traffic (I mean, what is the idea of flashing lights and almost pushing cars in front of you off the road when a mere glance though the windscreen will let you know that the next 57 cars in front of you *also* drives 40 kph because that's just what the traffic is like today and, oh by the way, the signs above the road says 40...)
But also last night when a rather petite woman was stuggling with the help of various applicances, none of which were remotely designed for the task, to reach a switch for the door at the local supermarket. People just hurried by, some being very close to walking or driving their carts into her, most looking annoyed that she took up room in the door.
I offered to give a hand - I could easily reach - but it happened that the last tool had just done the job. Earned me a smile though.
Is kindness so difficult? Did parents really teach these people some manners and decency when they were kids, but it's gone down the drain since?
Harumph. Must get another cup of anti-grumpiness , methinks...

Currently it is raining. Again. Cars slowing down due to the conditions, having their lights on. It's more like november than july!
I'm glad I don't find spiders that size in my house. Exagerated perspective or not.

Titania (gone for lunch) Posted Jul 3, 2007
Have I ever told you about the time that... come to think of it, I think I did - but it was some time ago, so I'll just repeat myself, OK?
It was in Brighton, I was staying with a family while studying business English. One evening when I was about to go to bed, I spotted a firmly attached to the ceiling just above my pillow.
My imagination immediately started picturing how the spider would lower itself down onto my face once I had fallen asleep, so I knew I had to get rid of it, or I'd never be able to sleep.
Armed with the larger size of match box (empty) I stepped up on the bed, noticed I couldn't reach the spider, climbed onto a bureau, stretched up but found I still lacked a few inches. Seeing the spider up close made me realize it'd never fit into the match box...
I went to get a broom, brushed down the spider - and it fell down into my bed and immediately vanished. I started ripping out blankets, pillows and sheets and even turned the mattress upside down, but no spider. I looked under the bed, behind the bookshelf, everywhere.
No spider.
So I had to make my bed and lie down in it, knowing that *somewhere* there was a spider. I had trouble falling asleep because I kept imagining something crawling over various parts of my body, but I firmly refused to check if there was really something there. It took me a while to fall asleep...

Titania, I don't think I could have gone to sleep at all. What an experience. I would rather have about any critter you can name in the room with me than a spider.

He's just left, Hyp He went to Fulham, checked on the site and drove home for a quick lunch (and to let me see he was still in one piece) before going to check on another site nearby. He made me laugh... or I made him laugh. Either way, we laughed at me and my moment of blind
- he has a fatalistic streak, my Trog. I suppose that comes from growing up in the 15 years of Lebanese civil War.

I'd much rather have a spider wandering around (at least, a British spider!) than a mosquito. It is *impossible* to sleep with one of those whining around the room.

Mosquitoes are annoying. Spiders, on the other hand, are deadly to people who are as allergic to them as I am. I've been bitten twice by ordinary, nonpoisionous ones and had extreme reactions to say the least. I was told the next bite could be fatal. So I always carry strong antihistimines to take to give me time to get to a hospital if I ever get bitten again.
I had a neighbor who nearly died from a single bee sting. Any insect venom can cause serious problems if you're unlucky enough to be ultrasensitive to it. A boy I knew growing up used to think it was funny to sneak up behind people and put insects, lizards, frogs, and snakes on then. Yep, really funny, jerk. He put a small garter snake down the back of my shirt once. Fortunately, I've never been afraid of snakes, but I never spoke to him again. I'm sure someone must have killed him by now. And fortunagtely it wasn't a spider. In those days we didn't know I was allergic to them since I hadn't been bitten yet.

I was bitten once, but had no reaction other than a red spot and a terrific itch.
Bees, however, are another matter.

Thank the goddess, Trog is safe, Wilma.
On the subject of s, one final word from me, possibly
I used to keep a tarantula many moons ago. The little buggar use to escape from his 'cage' and hide in my bed clothes. Used to scare me poor old mum somat horrid He never bit me and was so huge you couldn't really miss him and I have loved
s ever since. Admittedly, I've never had any allergy problems with insects and I can fully appreciate the from others who do.
