I've always rather liked certain types of spiders, for their bug-catching properties. However, I was bitten by one a couple of years ago and ended up getting an antibiotic shot because of it. Ever since then, the elbow that was bitten has been somewhat...sensitive.

yikes, the camel spiders Ive seen have had bodies about the length of my thumb - the little tinkers in that phot must have been on steroids or taken from a clever perspective - notwithstanding that they have these blinking big bitey johnsons that account for about 50% of their length, and they always appear to be really very grumpy, in a scampery sort of way. Dont know if this is going to get me into big trub, but they apparently have just announced that the chap in Scotland has been named as Singe Maheed and he was disorientated because he was celebrating Ramavan...

I want to know what camel spiders eat. Do they eat whatever is the Iraqi equivalent of gophers?
As you can, the thread isn't new yet. I was shut down early by violent thunderstorms. So. Today, then.

Perhaps camel spiders eat camels?
Wait, spiders can bite? Do we in Europe simply have wussy spiders who don't bother? Or have I been extremely sheltered all my life? Ants, now. I've been bitten by ants. And S is allergic to bees - last time one got him, on the tip of his little finger, his entire arm swelled up all the way to the shoulder and one side of his face went puffy. So now he is SUPPOSED to carry an adrenalin jab with him all summer. SUPPOSED. I don't think he has 'remembered' this year, for all my nagging. Gah.
All these security alerts and bomb disposal squads and controlled explosions - *shudder*. Hey, at least we're getting alerts and disposal squads. And no one has been hurt. There are so many places where the first the locals know of any problem is when something actually does blow up. We in Britain are amazingly lucky. It's hard to remember that when feeling nervous and 'under seige', but we are.

Or maybe the arachnids are fond of tobacco?
Ag, you have a very good point about how lucky we are.

Groans at PWM's joke, a good example of the sudden jokes that develop off the cuff almost immediately following just about anything these days..

Lil, Ive only ever seen camel spiders trying to eat rats (as in Rat Packs - see another conversation about rat pack tea!) they have a particular fondness for Biscuits brown and the substance labelled meat paste (tinned toes and noses! or ears and ar*eholes depending on whether you are in an officers trench or a chaps trench!) which possibly explains their predilection for ill humour! the spiders, not the officers or chaps! Dont you have a Bill Murray Caddyshack type character out there Lincoln way who can do you a little bit of Gopher mitigation?

So they are omnivores. And who wouldn't be, in the Iraqi desert??
It is official: I am now working on what's left of the backlog, thanks to Mol's early work, and will be generating a new thread sometime in the next couple of hours. Get yer running shoes on.

I am often vaguely amused that whenever Lil posts that a new convo is in the offing, that posts stop till the new convo appears.

wanders around sipping rum with a tiny hint of cocoa and kicking dust...

Peripatetic Warrior Monk Posted Jul 3, 2007
the dust isnt in the cocoa; the cocoa is in the rum and in addition to drinking, he is kicking dust. Just to be clear.

I dunno. Kicking dust may be tasty when added to run PWM.

Peripatetic Warrior Monk Posted Jul 3, 2007
Perhaps dependent on where you get your kicking dust from - or alternatively where you get your rum from

Agapanthus Posted Jul 3, 2007
If I ever found a rum distillery, I am naming it 'Kicking Dust'.
