Would have thought since this thread is moderated by members (some using its facilities for several years pre Rupert even) that Lil should have been contacted before the post was yikes'd... Specially if the person that complained had not contributed to it...Given this thread has a etiquette attached to it and I'm sure that post had not offended it...
Wonder if was a new moderator or ace....
I've had one of my poetry efforts pulled (How to skin a cat a obviously comical one) perhaps placing it next to a entry on cats. Asked several times to see copy of complaint (with the name removed of coarse)
Lil unlikely you will get rabies, (no self respecting cat would catch a rat with the disease) had you been seeing a lot of dead rats recently or rabies was prevalent in your area, given your fair way out of high population area...Cant give you the odds on getting the black death though...found any Zits latly..
* mention poem as read entry (edited) on how to skin a cat last week thought my poem was more child friendly than entry though...

Lil, I'm with Cille on this one. Better safe than sorry. Not having reported cases of rabies is reassuring, but you could still get a nasty infection from it. It's probably a good thing that it bled a lot. Or is that another old wives tale - that when a wound bleeds immediately it washes away bacteria, etc. so you have less chance of an infection? I know that is said of a puncture wound.

Lady C made an early start. They are trying to get through Oklahoma while they still can. The reports out of SE Kansas are pretty grim. They don't expect the highways to reopen for several days.
Teuchter, is your mom still traveling today?

An LPN is a nurse who can prescribe meds as I understand it.

I hope Lady C and her entourage find their way home safely.
This morning the wound is a tiny bit of localised redness, but is otherwise clean and not swollen. Mainly I'm tired from sleeping poorly, and I have three different social obligations to surmount before I can deem the weekend over and get back to my home-office-based stuff.
An LPN is a licensed practical nurse. We have one who runs a clinic in Capitan, deals with all the routine medical stuff and refers serious stuff to actual doctors, who are in short supply in these parts. I haven't seen a doctor in 5 years.

My poor Ma has been up since 5.30am and at the airport since about 10.00am - and phoned a while ago to say her flight's been cancelled. It should have left at 11.55 - 3 hours ago.
They've had some fog problems - but there's also huge disruption to all Scottish airports just now.
I think she'll be able to rebook on a flight tomorrow. We've got tickets for the Hampton Court Flower Show on Tuesday.
Watch this space - I may end up with a spare ticket.
Hope Lord and Lady C get home safely

And I will continue to worry about Lil's bite until she's seen the LPN.

LPN = Licensed Practical Nurse. The plethora of acronyms in the medical professions is rather amazing, actually.

The type of nurse who can prescibe medicine is a Nurse Practitioner. That's a Registered Nurse with specialized training. Nowadays, RNs have bachelors degrees and LPNs do not.

At the moment I need something for my acute hypochondria. Every twinge makes me panic.
Hope it's got a bit cooler since the sun's gone down, PWM!

Even if there is no outbreak of rabies in your area, Lil, and your cat was intelligent enough not to bring an infected animal into your house, the only sure way to know the rat was not rabid was for you to have killed it (or captured and kept it) and brought the rat down to your local county Animal Control office (or similar New Mexican agency). They would have run the necessary tests to determine whether or not it was rabid. I'm pretty sure all they need is the head to do this. Anyway, from what you've said, it seems unlikely this was the case, but you really never know with wild critters. That's why you need to see a medical professional tomorrow and have the wound thoroughly checked out.
I hate to add to your paranoia, but wild animal bites are nothing to...er...fork around with.

uh,rabies. glad we don't have that here(so far). LIL.
Whenever my brings live wildies in,I reach for the tupperware box (kept for the purpose) and slam same over animal. The lid is slid under and little tyke deposited outside. It helps if box is clear plastic. For insects, it's the glass & postcard trick.
Hope your family gets home safe,Hypatia.

I'm afriad my Cat hadn't quite got the hang of cat-ness. I left my back door open recently and found my cat running away from a horendous noise. It was a small brown bird who had got into the kitchen and was dashing itself to death through the window.
I somehow remembered that if I threw a tea towel over a bird it goes quiet!.
And believe it or not I put a tea towel on and it just went very very quiet and didn't move.
Anyway I'm back from the Orkneys and getting to grips with reality. Work tomorrow, and I'm relocating in four weeks time adn I still don't know which part of Lancashire I'll be moving to.

Good Night GDZ
So if you've got to relocate in 4 weeks but they haven't told you where. Do you know when you'll be told (I know in 5 weeks time where you'll then be told off for not starting work at the right time!)

STRANGELY STRANGE ( A brain on a spring ) Posted Jul 2, 2007
Strangely tip toes in and sits quietly down and has a calming cup of tea, I thank you for your calls for me to return.
I was waiting for the E Mail to say it had been pulled but non arrived, I checked and the post has been uncovered and returned, post 1022 if I remember correctly. I apologise if the words are somewhat direct but this country bent over backwards to accomodate assorted people and was rewarded with bombs and placards saying "9/11 was a towering day in history" and the London bombers were "The Magnificent Four".

Good to you (and your post) back, SS. I can't believe it went missing in action over the weekend, I think you were only expressing what many of us already think.
