*returns after shifting half a cord of wood from the ground on her property to the boot of her car and from there to her garage*
When I moved in to this house, there was a fruitcake in a tin. It's still there.
I leave the house in about two hours to do the closing.

Wondering what a "cord" is, but passing on any fruitcake that Lil may offer, however kindly meant!

128 cubic feet of wood = 1 cord.

Strange isn't it that cat food has featured quite a lot in the lists so far, I suppose it could be that cats are sneakily eating all the other food in the cupboards or that cats have us so well trained not having a lot of cat food is simply not an option....

What do I have in my pantry?
Well, evidently I'm Mormon, because I always have 2 weeks of food in the pantry. I think the reason I have so much food is that I expect the collapse of civilization. I don't want to end up on the side of the road eating dog food out of a can. But I'd have a nice leather biker outfit and a sawed off shotgun, so maybe things even themselves out.
So there's a lot of canned vegetables like beans, hominy, corn, spinach, greens, mixed vegetables, I think even a can of peas. But they're not Le Seur peas, which are the only edible canned peas I've found. Plus packaged dinners, tuna, rice, pasta, honey, sugar, flour, masa flour, Vietnamese fish sauce, soy sauce, bbq sauce... I could go on!
And several cornbread and brownie mixes. When I was a child, we had cornbread just about every day. Now I use the mixes, and complain. I wonder how it would taste if I cooked the brownie mix in the cast iron frying pan...

Nothing wrong with that. Cake mix and instant pudding can make a pretty elaborate dessert. Hypatia has this recipe for pineapple dump cake that used cake mix, I seem to remember... I've got it around here somewhere.

LTP, for a minute there, I was afraid your listing was a recipe
We have three cupboards that, summed up, would be the equivalent of a well supplied pantry. Very well - I have completely given up in advance even trying to go down to list the contents. I am actually sitting with my w**k laptop so I theoretically could - but I prioritize logging off and getting to bed before midnight
In short - everything from flour in varieties over cat food and gin to light bulbs and dish washer cleaner...

The Worchestershire sauce in my pantry is unopened. The open bottle is in the fridge, but it's nearly empty. Lea and Perrins, I believe.
(Please excuse the spelling error in the earlier post. I do know better.)
Son in law sent in some goose jerky this morning. It's excellent.
There is snow and/or ice on both sides of us. Glad I don't have to go anywhere.

Not sure what's in my store cupboards. I'll have a look tommorrow.
Are you sure you want to stop your studies GDZ? You are pretty close to the finish line, aren't you? Or are they still being unhelpful about those courses?

I have heard nothing from the division chair as yet. After much thought I think it best for me mentally, to take a break.

I'm a hoarder, really. In my pantry are the following items:
top shelf: big tin of oatmeal, hot cocoa mix, canned soups, various jars of various sauces.
2nd shelf: canned stuff. tomatoes, green beans, beets, chiles, olives, tuna and chicken.
3rd shelf: dry goods. rice mix thingies, several boxes of mac n cheeze (for the kiddie, don't you know), jello.
4th shelf: kid shelf. Cereal, instant oatmeal, fruit snacks, mini marshmallows for hot cocoa.
bottom shelf: wine, liquor, extra paper towels.
I have an entire cupboard for my spices and baking stuff. I've always made room for those things.
And yes, FG's pantry is...ahem...rather big.

Hah! Zoe just chased Gummo across the house, because he had a ball that she wanted.
I have too much in my cupboards, I tend to stock up because I loathe shopping, though the supermarket is only a 5 minute drive from here.

Jar of tomato sauce, for those quick dinners
Cans of tomatoes (whole, chopped, pureed)
Peanut butter
Nutella
Instant couscous
sardines, anchovies, and tuna
canellini beans
White Rice
Brown Rice
White Flour
Whole wheat flour
self rising flour
oil (olive, canola, peanut)
vinegar (white, red wine, apple cider)
teriaki sauce
roasted red peppers
canned pumpkin
sugar
molasses
honey
cocoa
spices
Assorted teas
dog food
dog biscuits
breakfast cereal

a few onions
a few potatoes (sprouting!)
There's more but I'm stopping now.
And Lentilla, I have at least one can of dog food that would make you drool. Dick Van Patten's "Irish Stew" dog food.

Hypatia Posted Nov 30, 2006
I am getting ready to hunt up my oil lamps and make sure they are filled and the wicks are good. I've turned up the furnace to make sure the house is a bit warmer than usual. All of the cats, including Molly and the stupid neighbor's cat are inside and cozy. I've hunted up extra blankets and laid out my coat, hat, gloves and boots.
And why am I winterizing? It was 62ºF when I got up this morning. It is now 30 degrees colder and the temperature is still falling. Did I mention that it's raining? We will have at least an inch of ice overnight, which means there is a very good chance the power lines will go down. There is supposed to be a short break in the morning followed by a foot of snow. So, if I lose power, I will probably be without it for a couple of days. Fortunately, I'm fairly close to some business who will get priority service.
If I lose power at the library, I'll just close. There's no way for us to do business without any electricity. Besides, we are so short handed that I can't risk any of my staff getting in an accident and injured trying to drive to work.

I dunno... it's still dog food, right?
Hypatia, you're probably getting the same weather that's hitting us right now. It was 70° this morning - it's supposed to be 30° tonight. Craziness.
We haven't yet turned the gas heater on, and I'm rather fearful of doing so. It's an old one, and the maintenance guy said that it's a major cause of fires.
