I read that Neal Stephenson is topping Cryptonomicon with a trilogy called The Baroque Cycle, the first installment of which comes out in September. Apparently it's about everything.

I can hardly wait for the new book. Stephenson is my favourite current author (read that as a writer who is actively publishing books).
If it is half the book of Cryptonomicon or Snow Crash, it will be a great read.

Phil - I wonder why you've had the misfortune of knowing Skelmersdale, the date of the Bradford Brocolli is the date we'd planned for the next meet.

Blackberry brandy:
1 big bottle brandy
a whole bunch of blackberries, mixed with sugar to taste.
put the blackberries in some cheesecloth, smoosh 'em around a little, and suspend in brandy. put in a dark, cool place for a while (six months was my grandmother's rule of thumb) and then decant.
If you want, fg, I will ask my grandma the exact measurements. She used to make raspberry brandy, so it can't be all that different!
My shoes came...they are fabulous. And I bought some clothes, and I got into a size of jeans I haven't worn since before my daughter was born. Something's working!

Wish I could have the same thing happen to me MR. The weightlifting that I did on sunday has caused some problems with my tendons. I need to wait a bit and try it again. I hope to get to the point that I can lift all the weights we have in the house with no problem and also loose some weight in teh mean time (though weight training usually makes you gain weight int he long run). I also hope to start cycling a gain soon for cardio work.

Marv's right. I recently increased the resistance on the rowing machine and the bike because they were getting too easy and I put on a little weight as a result.
I must go to the gym this morning. I haven't been so far this week .

It is bright and sunny this morning
We are hoping to get round to seeing the new film Calendar Girls this weekend. It has had excellent reviews.
Well done on the weight loss MR. Mine stays the same in spite of the gym and circuit training. But I haven't been calorie counting over the summer and shall have to get back to some sort of regime dieting wise.
Amy, did you see the suedette skirts in M&S? I can't believe how much that fabric has improved over the years, it felt beautiful.

You see? It takes a good fiveminutes without the to think of a word, Amy's post wasn't there when I started!
I must go and find my concise OED!

Do y'all mind if I lurk here a while? I am very quiet, clean and polite. I'm properly house-trained, generally well behaved, and all in all nearly invisible and easily ignored. However, I am also too lazy to lurk without the occasional bookmark.
Many thanks.
