Sorry to hear you're invisible, Toc. I've definately had that problem myself.
MR, I hope things work out alright. I know how bad complications can get, but believe me, 21 years is not as naive as you may think.
Bryce, thanks for the welcome, and welcome back!
::sigh:: Ever get in a mood where you just feel like starting a revolution? I can just hear John Lennon telling me that "We all want to change your head."

I have the same problem in bars, Toccata. It takes me forever to get served. I can't figure out why.
Any hints, MR? What makes you notice when someone is waiting to be served instead of just standing there?

In a bar? Um, I tend to scan faces, and see who's trying to catch my eye. If you get ignored more than once, say something, like "I was next." Sometimes it's hard for a bartender in a crowded bar to know who has and who hasn't been waiting, since often times, the taps are where our back is turned to you, so we don't know who came up in what order.
Although *I* am one who is not fond of this method, sometimes waving money helps... (I think it's rude, frankly!)
Also, the question has to be raised...were you one of the few women in the bar, and were you and the other women *not* being served? If so, I suggest you ring up the management and let them know. I've been told the story of a bartender working a hip-hop event who apparently was pointedly not serving blacks...he was fired the next day. As he should have been.

How to notice people is something I have uncommon difficulty teaching my employees. You would think it would be easy, but people just seem to have trouble with their target recognition systems. I have to send some of our kids over to an order more often than they find the customers by themselves.

Right artilce, done and dusted, and submitted to the student BMJ, doubt begins to set in now! I prepare myself for the impending rejection, I'm not sure what happens next, as I've never submitted anything to them before

Sad to say I don't know plants of that part of the world.
I had a 3-day garden-party to celebrate my son's b-day (well, we spent the night indoors ) and I went to see Matrix reloaded last night. It wasn't funny and it could as well be an hour shorter. All those heroic scenes and such. And romance... But it still was worth of seeing.

I have a flat tire on my lawnmower again. It's always something. But my beans and cucumbers are already up and my tomatoes have fruit setting on.

*I have found that holding money in the hand I am trying to flag the bartender down works. Also, I will give a large tip on the first round, that way the bartender remembers you.*

Making eye contact and smiling usually works for me, shouting my order out at the same time if it looks like I'm going to be ignored.
I'm referring to pubs, but in any situation, like the deli or meat counter applies.

It's avery hot day and I've been napping half the afternoon, so I feel rather muzzy just now. Had two Quakers attend meeting with me this morning.

Hello, everyone ! Another warm May day here.
just found out the convenience store i work for has been robbed this afternoon. Nobody was hurt, thankfully. I will be working the graveyard shift tonight and should find out more details of what really happened. Store robberies seem to be on the upswing in the Salt lake City area- due to the economy, I'm guessing.
Irving, you are aware that the Beatles song "Revolution" is actually a cynical rejoinder to a Rolling Stones song advocating revolution? This song is not actually advocating revolution but tweaking the mindlessness of many of those who were. Many of the fashionably leftist activists today seem to be merely rebellious with little thought of what is involved with really building a new world.

For those of you that have met me in person, you might realize that I ahve little trouble getting noticed in a crowd. My bar staff helps me well, and often has my first beer on the bar before I even get to it. Of course I think that has more to do with the fact that I ahve bene going to the same bar for many years and tip reasonably well.
Went out to the desert with my armoury today for some target practice. As some of you know, I collect Eastern European firearms as a hobby. It was a hot, but breezy day and it was quite enjoyable. The friend who was with me is a former US Army Ranger, and he gave me a number of pointers. One old monitor met it's maker this day and we perforated much of the detritus that is usualy out there. I try to clean up what I take in, so the monitor found it's way into a dumpster on teh way home. My friend J also was quite helpfull when it came time to clean them, which is a first. Usually it is like pulling teeth to get anyone to help clean up after a day shooting.
Before anyone says anything about US gun culture, I would like to point out that I am a pacifist, and do not condone any form of violence much less shooting someone. I do not keep weapons in fear of other people, but as a curiosity. I enjoy shooting, but even more than that I am facinated by the devices of war and violence. The same applies to trebuchets and mangonels, but they are a bit bulky to collect.

I have very strong opinions on guns, and will leave it at that.
It was a lass behind the bar, and she was asking who's next? she spoke to me twice and I pointed out a couple of people who were waiting before me, then she didn't speak to me again. I dislike waving money and the bar wasn't that crowded.
It just seems to be a knack I have, except in one or two pubs funnily enough. Munchkin is going to observe me next time, and see if he can spot where I am going wrong.
Well, off to my temp job. It's only on an office reception, so it shouldn't be too busy

Less than 3 weeks left to summer solstice - if the sky is clear it doesn't get completely dark during the night any more (at least I think so - I've been up late as well as early, but not around 2-3 in the morning)
Key: Complain about this post
