Back from work and therefore late into the days topics
Woke up this morning, to snow in sarf lunnun, First for three years IIRC but only about 10mm and most of it has melted during the day.

Am I right in remembering that for some reason the EU had ruled that Jam could only be made from fruit, which they couldn't change as they had had it ratified by all the governments, so to get round the Portuguese carrot jam problem, they then ruled that carrots are fruit
Do you mean Green & Red Tomato Chutney Mmmmmmm.... not weird.
And for the record forget the mint jelly the only thing to have with lamb is mint sauce.

How are your Fjords

Hypatia Posted Jan 7, 2003
BB - not chutney. Around here they make preserves with green tomatoes and use it like jam on biscuits. I've never seen any made with ripe tomatoes. It's, well, different.
Onion marmalade? I really need to get around more. I love anything with onions, so that sounds interesting.

The article looks good, Amy. Found one typo - a missing "of" in this sentence:
You can sign up immediately as a member the audience...
Also, I'm a little concerned about opening it up to all and sundry. I've been in lots of good adventures that were spoiled by people who didn't play well. I guess we'll see how it goes.
Regarding marmelade, I thought it had to have some citrus peel in it. Although, now that I think about it, I don't remember any peel in the ginger marmelade I've had in the past. Rhubarb/ginger marmelade is particularly good.

Hallo Garius, good to see you! I missed that typo, and I think the article is great.
I'll start the new thread later on. It won't be a comprehensive review of the past thread, cos I forgot to take notes, but it will get us re-established.
BB, my problem is ~controlling~ the fjords! They keep invading the continent masses like chicken pox.

I'm afraid to start a new conversation because I've forgotten what everyone *was* up to prior to this particular page.
Marmalade has the whole fruit--for example orange juice, pulp, pith and peel. My mother made homemade marmalade for Christmas from two different types of oranges she got from relatives in Florida. Both are a wonderful combination of tart and sweet. Whoever (I'm sorry I can't remember who) wondered how jelly was made since they found it rather sketchy, it's simply strained jam. The pulp and seeds and whatever are strained out through a cheesecloth or fine-meshed colander. So it's pure fruit.
As for Jell-O... I don't understand why *anyone* would consume ground cattle hooves.

Have you checked the programme credits ?
You make it sound like it was written by Slartibartfast and we all know how much he liked fjords

Hi Lil. Nice to be here. Work has eased off a little - I just wrapped up a big project and haven't started the next one yet. I really should start the next one, but I need a little breathing space, so I have been catching up on mini-projects (and backlog).

I do like the souvenir programme
I always have both mint sauce and jelly in the house, but I prefer the jelly. Although, as kids we always had mint sauce and I don't remember when I was converted to jelly.
On the north side of the garden shed the temperature is -2.4C which is pretty nippy for 19.15 for this area.

About as warm (or cold) as at Hati's right now, but very humid - some of the trees are so covered with frost that they look almost furry... and the dampness is difficult to keep out with clothes...
I'm sorry for not offering to start a new conversation, but you wouldn't like it - trust me
I never succeeded in writing reviews in school - they always ended up too long-winded and detailed (should have started working for Reader's Digest) - an intro would go on and on for ever...

I've just spotted that Radio 4 has done an adaptation of His Dark Materials. If you fancy hearing it you can get The Northern Lights here; http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/arts/hisdarkmaterials/index.shtml until Saturday when The Subtle Knife turns up. Be warned, it goes on for two and a half hours.

I'll have a go at listening to that while I'm drawing .
Thanks for spotting the typo, GL. I've corrected it and sent the article to Shazz.

Reappears in the land of the living, knackered and sleepy. Happy New Year to all.
No 2 arrived on the 29th December, Elspeth Claire. Healthy and squawky (typical girl - so many words to get out each day)
A gentle -5 C here tonight, hoping for snow 'cos I've just bought a sledge for number one son

Congratulations to you Eats, and to Mrs. Eats, and to Eats Jr., and now how to refer to you new addition? Eatsette?
It's about time that the US media conglomerate gets knocked down a few pegs. I'm waiting for the US Supreme Court decision on the recent extension of copyrights that was done with no public debate, stopping loads of material (including Mickey Mouse's first film appearance) from entering the public domain.

Like it d'E, but Eatslots is probably more appropriate! Mrs Eats almost goes cross-eyed when the little tike latches on. Glad I'm on the male side of the house.
