Asteroid Lil - Offstage Presence

The Big Chill soundtrack -- "Ain't Too Proud to Beg" has always been a favourite, associated with my US college years.

an oddity, Earthquake, deserves an honourable mention for its use of Sensurround sound (as well as Walter Matthau's cameo as the drunk) which turned out only to be good for movies about earthquakes.

For me the best soundtracks would be:

- The Nightmare Before Christmas
- Hackers
- About a Boy
- Dancer in the Dark
- Beetlejuice
- Rushmore
- Jurassic Park

*starts passing slices of birthday smiley - cake all around and leaving herself for last because she wants a better review from smiley - santa*

My favorite soundtracks are:

O Brother Where Art Thou
Swingers
Lone Star
LA Confidential
I Am Sam (Who doesn't like Beatles covers?!)
Jackie Brown (even better than Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction)
Bob Dylan's Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid

Speaking of soundtracks the first LP I ever bought on my own was the soundtrack to Saturday Night Fever.

And now my delima grows. Pi, Matrix, Wedding Singer, Grosse Point Blank, Empire Records, High Fidelity all have great soundtracks. What I really want to do is to condense it down to a single album. Oh Brother is also up there.

What to do, what to do.

Okay, FG, since YOU brought it up, and with great embarrassment to myself, let's have a round of "what was the first record you ever bought?".

Mine was the soundtrack to Xanadu...anyone remember it? The rollerskate heaven movie with Olivia Newton-John...although there *is* a song by The Tubes on it that rocks.

My first CD was Pink Floyd, The Wall. My first LP was Queen, Night at the Opera.
Well I mean that those were the first that I purchased. My latest purchase was Omar Santana, Hardcore for the Headstrong: The New Testament.

Garius Lupus

Here's what santa says for Garius:

"What a great person and friend! Definitely a "Nice!" Wonderful job of always considering others. Hands out compliments regularly. Knows the great importance of "please" and "thank you." A good role model. The main suggestions for improvement: eat more veggies and really wash those hands!"

More veggies! smiley - laughsmiley - laugh
Wash hands! smiley - laughsmiley - laughsmiley - laughsmiley - laugh

The first record I ever bought was a 45 (remember those) and it was the theme from Batman. Na na na na na na na na Batman.

The first albums I bought were Elton John - Don't shoot me I'm only the piano player, and Bread - Guitar Man.

Witty Moniker

The first album I ever bought was Abbey Road.

All of my favorite soundtracks made the lists above. My standouts are The Big Chill, Matrix, Moulin Rouge and I like Popeye, too. Call me sappy, but I also include White Christmas and Holiday Inn.

Caer, would that be Croquembouche? http://www.marthastewart.com/page.jhtml?type=content&id=recipe2221&search=true&resultNo=1

The first CD I bought was an ABBA recording. Too young for LPs but I remember my mother buying Bruce Springstine's Born in America.

Of course I remember Xanadu, I had the soundtrack! My favorite is Olivia Newton John and Gene Kelly's duet "Whenever You're Away From Me". Every girl at El Sobrante Elementary School dressed like the muses for nearly a year, even going so far as to weave long strands of ribbons in and out of metal barrettes. smiley - tongueout

My first CD was the Beatles' Revolver. smiley - musicalnote

Titania (gone for lunch)

*looks through her pile of old LPs*

smiley - blush

I think the first album I ever bought was 'Free as a bird' with Swedish natural photographer/film maker Jan Lindblad imitating various birds accompanied by all sorts of music, like 'Mull of Kintyre' or 'Bird Songs at Eventide' or 'Cuckoo Waltz' - oh dear, does this make me sound like a nature or what?

...but long before I started buying records, I bought cassettes - the oldest one seems to be The Kids from 'Fame'

Favourite film music - Amadeus - I bought the album right after I had seen the film

dElaphant (and Zeppo his dog (and Gummo, Zeppos dog)) - Left my apostrophes at the BBC

I've finally inspired someone to say "Great GooglyMoogly!" smiley - blush Thank you for the birthday wishes.

My first album was Billy Joel's "52nd Street", but that's not counting all the childhood albums I had (an entire set of Disney read-along LPs, plus the Willy Wonka soundtrack, the Banana Splits 45s, and yes I too had the Batman 45). My last LP was U2's "Joshua Tree". I can't remember what my first CD was, but my first DVD was The Fisher King.

I think something may be wrong with the Santa site. Osama bin Laden gets the same rating as Zeppo. smiley - erm

smiley - dog <-- has no weapons of mass destruction, honestly.
