Cassie has made good use of everyone being at home today and has had us all playing with her in turns.
I'm just about on top of things and looking forward to a glass or three of . Better stuff the turkey first though, otherwise the procedure will descend into a comedy routine

Yeah, don't worry Marv, CSS certainly isn't IE-centric.
Naturally there are things which only IE can do, and others which only Opera or even Netscape supports, but on the whole they are the best way to style a site. You can edit them quite conveniently in Dreamweaver without having to go through all the code (and note that you should /link/ to sheets, not import). In the end, of course, you'll want to learn all the code, but that's always the way once you've been using a program like DW for a while.
For an idea of a professional site, take a look at TDGN. I can't help you with personal, 'fun' sites because when I did those I was going through my bad design phase.

I've been using CSS for about a year now. Love it. Extremely flexible. Blogs really demand their use if you want to keep the content fresh without having to go back and change fifty thousand pages when you redo your site design. If you are thinking of doing a blog I'd recommend moveable type.
And if there wasn't such a thing as bad design, well, how would we know what good design looks like?

I hope Santa gets me BBEdit 7 for Christmas. And I really miss Mirsky's Worst of the Web. Nothing compares to the original.

Um, what's a blog? My computer teacher mentioned such a thing, but assumed we all knew what he was talking about. I thought I'd ask my programmer dad, but he hadn't a clue either.
Merry Christmas!

From what I gather, it's short for 'web log'. I have one, but I like to call it a journal. Sounds better, I think.
Actually, a blog probably has more features than a journal, but I can't imagine what they'd be.
Oh, and if you want real customisation, then use CSS in conjunction with some sort of advanced template system like h2g2's or mine.

Thanks, Overseer! That's pretty much what I'd guessed it meant.
*s at the cat stories*
My terrier caught chipmunks a couple of times when she was younger. She just ran up to Mom with a look on her face that said "What do I do now?". Mommy yelled at her to drop it, which she did, and the chipmunk ran away.

Mac (having trouble typing with a pug dog in his lap) Posted Dec 24, 2002
Our pugs haven't brought us any "gifts" yet, but that's mainly because we keep rescueing the taods from them. Oh, and we absolutely, positively have to keep our hermet crabs out of their sight.

Um, "taods" are careless, hurried "toads."

Merry Christmas all!
Someone was a sneaky yesterday and left a large wrapped in dark green paper with golden stars in a shopping bag hanging from my front doorknob. No note, no "To:___ From:___" sticker, no nothing. I interviewed the usual suspects and no one is confessing.
Hmmmmm....

To all of you, my friends, I wish peace and happiness toyou and your family. I hope that for each of you there is a year ahead of joy. May it bring peace from war and goodwill to all of our fellow men. I am battling a severe depression tonight after going to my traditional church service, as I realize that I had intended to be spending this holiday with a wife and stepdaughter. So if I appear bleak, rest assured that it will only be for a day.
My gift to you all is the following:
Love your family and friends
They will weather any storm
Cherish the small gifts
They are the ones that count
Respect your neighbor
They will reciprocate respect to you
Live with peace and faith
Those alone will save you.
A christmas wish.

Merry Christmas!
Parties are over here. My was this year - I got an axe. Now I'm armed and dangerous.
Another proof of my absentmindness - yesterday I took my large carpent out as I hate to have the remains of in it. Today I realized that I had cleaned the carpent and left it hanging on the line in my backyard. It has been snowing most of the time...

Merry Christmas, all!
I have a present for the Atelier.
*Waves his hand, and a somewhat ornate, short pillar appears next to him. It looks a lot like the stand for a sundial, but without the sundial itself. In its place there is bowl extending a little way off the stand with a short metal cone in the middle.*
It's a megaphoton fountain. The stand contains a reservoir of my own special particle - the megaphoton - which emits photons, light if you will, of any colour you care to set it to. They spill out the cone and can shape in any way you like - the megaphotons flow like water, making a sort of holographic light effect. You can put your finger in it and watch the light flow around it.
(Incidentallly, anyone who's seen the Stargate SG-1 episode 'The Light' should be able to imagine this.)
I thought you might want to put it in the corner somewhere as a novel little distraction for when there's nothing to do.
Meanwhile, in the land of RL...
I've got a new 120GB harddrive, finally! At last I can reinstall Windoze, drivers, this that and the other, and Linux!
