Simulpost Marv. Glad you had fun!
And don't I feel silly.

That would be the correct link. I spell it right, and then I go and spell it wrong.

Sounds like a great time there...
Great floats. Think I'll save the phlog for after desert. Wouldn't want anything to get in the way of desert.

I think I'll wait a little - and try a rootbear float meanwhile, please...
T, what's this little anouncement you slipped into the Winter party convo?
Caer - witch announcement? Winter party? Oh - the h2g2 meet up in January? Did Arl/Irv get married?
*looks at the ing Marv*
Did you notice in which order he listed the reasons he's taking the day off?
I am taking tomorrow off of work so I can catch up on backlog then and recover from a 10.5 hour, 700 mile drive from LA to SLC
Thus posts a true h2g2 addicted researcher!

T, the one about Ludwig
Morning of accounts and bathroom issues in the house I let out . Why is it completely impossible to have work done properly?
Meanwhile Cassie is on the windowsill watching the wildlife.

I posted more details on Ludwig's page, for those who'd like to know where/why he disappeared...
*tries to decide whether to try some phlog or not, but has a very vague memory of some trouble if combined with *
Some day I really need to re-read the backlog of all those past adventures!

[Munchkin]
Morning all. Sorry I missed the weekends eating, but I think I'll have a glass of ta. What is root beer by the way? And which root?
Went to Portsmouth on Sunday as the Historic Dockyard was open for a "Victorian Christmas Fair". The Fair was pants, just normal stalls and some people in random costumes wandering around, not interacting particularly with the punters. However I did get to see the Mary Rose and Victory which were fascinating. The Victory is absolutely massive! And yet horribly cramped.
For the non Brits amongst you the Mary Rose was Henry VIII flagship which sank in fifteen umpty tum and HMS Victory was Admiral Nelson's flagship at Trafalgar which is still in very good nick and still an official RN ship.

Coniraya Posted Dec 2, 2002
We were thinking of going to the Dockyard, Munch, to see the Fair as we have a season ticket. Perhaps we won't bother, but we do still have passes for the Mary Rose which I first saw years ago.
We thought we might use our Hampton Court Palace season ticket to see the Yuletide Kitchen demo thingy next weekend. Those are always enjoyable as the re-enactors are very good and are 'in character'.
Sadly the Victory is no longer seaworthy, but holds the record for teh oldest commissioned Naval vessel, I believe. However the USS Constitution is still sea worthy and holds the record for the oldest seaworthy Naval vessel. As I haven't checked my facts, I could be completely wrong

There's lots of leftovers, Munchkin
I knew Arl=Irv but I didn't want to tell on him... Think I hinted a bit though.
As for meeting people, I'm really looking forward to the London Winter-meet. I see some other salonistas will attend as well.

dElaphant (and Zeppo his dog (and Gummo, Zeppos dog)) - Left my apostrophes at the BBC Posted Dec 2, 2002
Blah. I have a head cold. And Zeppo is being very finicky and won't eat his breakfast or the dog biscuits that he couldn't get enough of yesterday.
Irv gave away his surprise when he accidentally posted as Arl (or was that the other way round?). But it was in an out-of-the-way place, so not many people saw it.

Is there any more of that leek and something soup? I think I missed that one!

If there's any of Marv's killer salad dressing left I could do with recharging the tanks on the DFB. And I may have a use for Sporky's gingerbread should there be any left over.

Asteroid Lil - Offstage Presence Posted Dec 2, 2002
Root beer is made from extract of sassafrass (accent on first syllable, all vowels as in hat), which is an American variety of acacia. Brewed like beer, but non-alcoholic. The real thing has a delicious rich smooth flavour. The stuff you get in cans at the supermarket is over-carbonated artifically-flavoured rubbish.
Out here I can get Henry Morgan's root beer, real brewed and bottled, and it costs a little more than beer beer. During the summer I often made floats with Haagen-Dasz vanilla ice cream.
But now it's time for maple cheesecake!
Mmmmm, and maybe some of this chocolate pie...

Someone above asked whether I had gotten married. I do not remember having gotten married, and if I am married, then I'm sure that my wife feels quite neglected as I have not been living with her. Hmmm...

Sorry I couldn't hook up with Marv & MR, but the weekend was completely booked.
Also, I will apparently be spending 2 weeks in France in the middle of June. Looking forward to it, but I took Spanish in high school so a little worried about the whole communication thing. The last thing I want to be is a typical American. Does anyone have suggestions on the best approach to the French?

As I understand it, many French people speak English. However, if you speak really slowly in a loud and obnoxious voice, they will claim not to. For instance:
Correct:
You: "Excuse me, do you speak Enlish?"
Jacques: "Why yes, Madame, what can I do for you?"
Incorrect:
You: "DO - YOU - SPEAK - ENGLISH????!!!!????!!!"
Jacues: "Non, Madame."

Make some attempt to learn a few key phrases, and pepper your conversations with "si vous plais" "pardon" "monsieur/madam". The attempt to speak their language will be appreciated, and politeness will be responded to in kind.

I saw that Nova too, Sporky. *And* I have The Orchid Thief, *and* I plan on seeing Adaptation (sp??) once it hits the theaters here. I say "once" because Missoula usually gets movies (well, the good ones--Rob Schneider movies show up the the first day and last for months) a couple of weeks after they have opened elsewhere. Susan Orlean is the greatest!
Courtesy, I got my copy of Norah Jones' "Come Away With Me". Who knew Ravi Shankar's daughter could bring jazz cool to an old Hank Williams tune? I highly recommend this CD to everyone. She has a lovely voice and her music blends jazz with a dash of classic country-western and a dash of deep dark blues.

Frighteningly, I also got the Norah Jones CD this weekend, along with the Rolling Stone's Forty Licks and Elton John's 3 disc greatest hits. I like the Norah Jones, but for sheer fun, I highly recommend Forty Licks. It's Rolling Stone overload.
My mother wanted Josh Groban. I'd never heard of the guy before, so when I saw a TV listing with him on it I tuned in. YECK!
My visit with Marv was too short, as always, but it was good to see him.

Courtesy, if you have a Palm there is a good program called Smalltalk which is a translator. It depends where you are going in France, most of the major cities are used to English speakers but more rural areas it can be harder to communicate. The Beeb has an online French tuition course for the basics.
Munch, have you seen the latest Classic Car mag? There is an article about buying MGBs.
