d"E - we had a similar problem at the library with the roots of three sugar maples. Kept clogging the drains. Anyway, the city folks found a product that they pour into the drain twice a year. It's an acid of some kind and it kills the roots in the pipe but doesn't kill the tree. We haven't had to have the pipe roto- rooted for nearly four years. It's a little pricey - around $50 a bottle. But if you really want to keep the tree.............

So is anyone thinking about the new convo thread? I would do it again but I am a bit pressed for time. Anyway someone else should give it a go.

I had a Chinese elm in my back yard in Florida, and it did the same thing -- tangled its roots into the leach lines.
Amy, that's a brilliant woolly mammoth.
As regards the thread-launch, it's quite easy. Sometimes I doggedly remember everything that's happened, sometimes I just tell a story, sometimes I just describe the current environment. No-one should feel any pressure to log the entirety of the previous thread.
Has anyone seen sea lately?

I caught a glimpse of the Irish Sea flying up to Glasgow a couple of weeks ago if that helps
I have no idea why that photo surprises people, dogs do that all the time. Its when you see an Old English Sheep Dog type of thing that is over six foot tall when stood up do it to someone that it is really funny.

Gaaahhh! Just when I'm thinking 'Aha! That particular researcher posted in the Atelier shortly before posting at the Masque' or the other way around... others pop in as well! *tears her list into small pieces, feeds them to the fire*
I'll start on a new list once I've got my mind working again...

We have to take the drain cover off here regularly, H even bought some drain rods to clear the gunk. Roots appear to be the problem here too, but there isn't anything growing close enough to be the cause

Sea has been quite busy with school work(s) and her beau. I spoke to her very briefly via AIM today and she seemed quite busy.

dElaphant (and Zeppo his dog (and Gummo, Zeppos dog)) - Left my apostrophes at the BBC Posted Nov 11, 2002
Thanks for the suggestions - I just did some online research and found that there are a couple of products that kill the roots, one that is an herbicide and claims not to harm the environment but needs a licensed plumber to apply it (?), and the other a toxic substance that does harm the environment but is sold in Home Depot for do-it-yourselfers. At $50 that sounds much better than the $350 I spent to have the pipes snaked, or whatever it will cost to cut down the tree + over $4000 to then replace the pipe (because new roots would grow into the cracks, old tree or no old tree). I think I'll go with the claim of not hurting the environment.
And I forgot to mention Amy that I like the painting too.
Titania, I deliberately wait 2 hours and 17 minutes between posting here and in the masqueurade.

*stops abruptly on her way to the tub*
2 hours 17 minutes? *starts stopwatch*
Not that I'll be awake to find out... ...and then I guess that information doesn't include Zeppo...

*drags a small inflatable dinghy to the hot tub*
I was trying to think of a way of sharing the hot tub experience without risking my life. I think this boat is the answer.

Watch out for the plastic duck, Amy. And we ought to talk to Garius about making sure your raft has stabilisers! We're all given to sloshing now and then...
Affi is extremely busy with real life -- senior year in high school. You all know how he protects his identity, but we do know he has band, theatricals, a jazz group, chess club, I think, as well as his studies. Plus he says his computer, known as V'ger, is a bit flaky. So appearances will probably be infrequent. But not to worry, we have Garius. *a fleeting expression of dubiety crosses Lil's face*

*a waterproofed note floats from the back rooms into the hot tub. It reads:*
Greetings, all. Having woken up yesterday with a nasty cold, I decided I would stay back in my woodshop instead of infecting you all. Hope you're all having a blast, and I look forward to hot tubbing later this week.

*enjoys the hot tub very much, especially since it's -7 C (19 F) outside this morning*
We had a little snow - which is nice, since it makes it less dark - hours between sunrise and sunset are now down to 8 hours...

Morning, just wet and horrible here. Still, means I look less of a prat wearing a hat on my walk to the train station.

Not raining quite as hard as earlier, but still grey and damp.
Not only do we Brits read more books than the rest of Europe but we eat more too: the equivalent of 26 Mars bar per year. Nothing like reading a good book with a packet of Maltesers to dip into.
On the wireless digital desktop weatherstation I bought H for our annivesary, I see that the pressure is falling and the trend is for it to continue to fall today. The outside temp is 10.6C, inside its 19C. The prediction for the next few hours is more rain, which will be alright, if Amy is feeling more comfortable today?

*sits up in her little boat*
Yes Caer, the weather is lovely and wet. I might actually have a good week. Although my eyes have flared up again .
Don't worry about splashing me. I've got my bikini on just in case I capsize. *points at little bright green bikini* As long as I can hold onto the side of the boat I'll be ok. *fends the duck off with an oar* That thing seems to be magnetically attracted to the boat.
