That ws very thoughtful of your folks to send you the ornament, Marv.
I don't think I've mentioned it, but the Webb City High School marching band will be in the Rose Bowl Parade this year. We're really proud of the kids. The community had to raise $240,000 to send them. There have been fundraisers for months. I feel like I've been hit up so many times that I should own a couple of those kids. I haven't watched the parade on TV for years, but will definitely be watching this year. If they cut to a commercial just as they come on, I will be very annoyed.

Re dog saliva, by enormous coincidence I was watching a program called Mythbusters last night where they took samples from a human and a dog ("Here doggie, lick this agar cup!") then left them to propagate for 24 hours in controlled conditions. The human's sample was totally coated with bacteria the next day, whilst the dogs was quite sparse.
*puts a little parrot on the tree, all studded with bits of mirror* This little ornament I bought for about 30 pence in Moseley Village just before I left it forever. It wasn't intended for Christmas, but I have given it place of honor on my tree for the past 20 years.

New thread? Some here just before Christmas
off to read what happened while wrapping gifts...
(hello and thanks to the tree - speaking of which, a small photo series of our own being decorated has just landed at my other blog; http://www.lindevej.dk/blog/2005/12/christmas-tree-gets-dressed.html)

I'm having some squash soup right now, as a matter of fact! In fact, I could have pumpkin bread with my butternut squash soup - I wonder if it's possible to overdose on squash?
Dog saliva... Well, I was about to post a comment saying I'd heard it was just different bacteria, but just as much in a dog's mouth - and then I read Lil's comment. So. Guess that shows me! That's really interesting - and I wonder why human mouths are so dirty! I wonder how they compare to a spider's mandibles.

A sales rep just dropped off a package of nuts for me - yum! And it's the mixed nut kind with Brazils and walnuts and those weird little filberts...
It's a good thing calories take the holidays off.

Amy the Ant - High Manzanilla of the Church of the Stuffed Olive Posted Dec 23, 2005
Have I been invited to Ben's housewarming? I wouldn't need to fly, methinks.
I have just been watching a documentary about York Minster, which took me right back to the summer and Hyp's visit. Remember the geese on the green, Hyp? Anyway, we now have a new cool Bishop called John Sentamu who I suspect is destined to change the World. Apparently you can pay to have initials engraved onto the new stonework on York Minster and I'll investigate this on behalf of the Salonistas.
Thanks for the concern about my leg but I have several of them and none of them are particularly painful at this time.
I finally got to M&S and it looked as if locusts had stripped the joint .

*Plops on the couch with another glass of eggnog with a generous splash of Gosling's dark rum.*
That's it, everything is wrapped! And remember that last item that Amazon said was holding up my entire order? Well, it's on a UPS truck and out for delivery as I type. Gotta love the internet, whoever invented package tracking should be a very rich person.
Hyp, I hope you get HGTV. They cover the entire Rose Bowl parade without commercials, so as long as you don't take a potty break, you will be guaranteed to see the Webb City High School Marching Band.

I agree. I found three pecan logs at the mighty WalMart the other day, and bought the lot. They're not Stuckey's but they're pretty good.

Indeed you were, Amy, sometime in the last LED, along with all other Salonistas within striking distance of West Yorkshire. It's the Saturday after Easter, the twenty-somethingth of April.

Andy and my mum did an impression of locusts in Tescos today - they bought 20 boxes of mince pies, but there were still some left, although the guy at the checkouts made sure there were before he'd sell them all!
They're for after the wedding - we're not planning to eat 150 mince pies over Christmas

It would be a noble effort, though, wouldn't it!
Playing a new computer game, well, I haven't installed one in so long that my video software drivers aren't up to the task. So now I have to stop and update everything in order for Myst V not to freeze.

I think after 50 mince pies (my share, lol) I'd probably look like one. And fail to fit into my dress & I don't know if Andy's waistcoat would do up, either
I'm going to be married a week from today!
I hope Myst stops freezing after the update. I find PC games frustrating for having to keep up with the latest hardware and software; I tend to play on consoles where possible as they don't get updated much.

How the Hell does asking somebody to remove a work of fiction from the Edited Guide Writing Workshop and put it either in the AWW or submit it to the post translate as me wanting the site to stagnate?

FG Posted Dec 24, 2005
Well, if I'm not around after this evening, I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas or whatever else it is you celebrate. I'm going up to my mother's house for three days of eating, drinking, and making merry. (Thanks to the half-case of wine my mother is getting me for Christmas from my favorite winery, La Chiripada http://www.lachiripada.com in New Mexico.)

I saw this and immediately had to come here to share:

There is so much candy in my house, I don't know where to hide. And food! Tons of food and all of it quite naughty. For instance, today I made a cheeseball (thanks FG) made from cream cheese, bacons and scallions... I'm counting it as a vegetable. Last night I also made grape jelly meatballs (again, the FG) - everyone liked them, even my "I don't like that sort of thing" father.
On top of all this complaining about copious amounts of food... I really hope there's some grilled pineapple in my future.
Key: Complain about this post
