sea - logging on from w*rk - using alab*ster BLECH!

my thoughts on the first few postings, since i didn't read the backlog earlier... smiley - blush

first of all, backlog. if it's 0-3 pages, i'll read it. if it's more and i have time, i'll read it. but if i don't, i skip it, and usually read the most recent page and a half or so just so i know where the conversation has gone.

if it weren't for the atelier, my entire existence on h2g2 would be roleplay, and as of late, i've been thinking about giving it up for a while, so basically, this and subbing are the only things that keep me here. all of you guys are my friends - actually, most of you know more about me than my friends do!!!

anyway, people looking over my shoulder. they get crabby when i hog the comp. @ w*rk.

smiley - hugs

I try to read all of the backlog, which is why I've mainly only been able to post once every 24 hours or so (what with homework and all). By the time I get back there's usually about four to five new LEDs waiting for me. Usually not too much trouble to read through.

I've never really had much cooking stress (what was it again? KAD, or something?), but I've never had to cook anything more complicated than a frozen pizza or a salad (I like salad. Especially the right kinds). I need to get into cooking soon, though. Gotta get the hang of the family recipes for Chile, Goop Cake, spaghetti sauce, devilled eggs, and slime (not for eating, but for entertainment purposes. And yes, my family does have a recipe for Slime). If I don't get some of the basics, I'll be looking at day after day of cafeteria food and carry out when I get to college, something that I just won't be able to cope with.

So, starting a new play, Sea? Have fun, and be sure to tell us how it works out.

Titania, the thing you want is called a tripod for steadying your camera so that you can take pictures with longer exposures. smiley - smiley

I am entirely devoid of KPA! I've cooked under so many circumstances for so many years that I don't think I would blink if someone really ~did~ bring a moa to the kitchen!

Last week of camp, then I have three weeks of wandering aimlessly through South Korea and avoiding getting arrested...should be fun!

Relatively well? That sounds worrying! Enjoying yourself, though, I'm sure! Avoiding getting arrested will be difficult will it?

KPA attacked me at school, but since I learned that it is perfectly possible to create fairly edible food without getting anal about which knife I'm using to cut things up, the correct name of the saucepan it all goes in, or the order in which the equipment is to be washed up, let alone the fact that playing fast and loose with the original recipe, and particularly that a failure to measure things out to the smallest milligram doesn't always result in disaster, I've been splendidly stress free.

I think the first time I was ever asked for id in my home town was when I was, in fact 18. I found this quite irritating at the time. But then, since my town was singled out by the Guardian last year as the obvious place to send their reporter to do an expose on binge drinking, clearly abuse of alcohol is endemic there.

Harry has got himself into bother? *total indiference wars with a nasty bout of schadenfreude and loses dismally) wjhat's up with that?

I spent my youth in Soviet Union. It was very easy to get alcohol from the shops or restaurants. The age limit was 18, later 21 (called Gorbatchov-law). But it was almost impossible to get drugs! My parents allowed me to drink smiley - bubbly and on New Years Eve only since I was 15 or so.
The kitchen thing is something I'd like to avoid as much as I could. I haven't been very lucky in it though. smiley - winkeye

The only time No1 son got asked for ID was last year, the local Constabulary were having one of their periodic purges to coincide with the introduction of a local bye-law against drinking in certain public places. They had asked off licences not to serve under 21s for a limited period. I think the idea was to stop older brothers buying it for younger ones.

He came home from the offie looking quite stunned to say that he had been refused alcohol even though he was 20, he said he thought the guy was joking as he had never been asked for ID even when he was 16 (he has always been very tall for his age). It kept us entertained for weeks!

Sea, any developments with the cute guy?!

The kitchen anxiety thing doesn't affect me. I love cooking but when I'm not in the mood I make do with take-aways and convenience food. When I do cook, I never cook meat, even though I eat it out. Can't be bothered with messing about too much. I sometimes cook from recipes, but what I like doing most is what I call my "concoctions" - experiments with whatever ingredients I have in at the time. I very rarely cook anything really fancy - I think thrown together one-pot dishes can be just as appetising and as I never have posh dinner parties (or ever go to them!) there is no pressure to do it.

Kitchen Performance Anxiety is not one of my problems. smiley - smiley Cooking, for me, it's just a matter of getting the chemistry and the hysics right, using your taste buds and nose, intuition and common sense, and humor. smiley - smiley
Kids and alcohol: The Norw. politics is to keep alcohol so expensive that only adults with good jobs can afford to drink... You have to be 18 for beer and wine, 20 for spirits. It's not the police who checks if underagers gets served but a special skjenkekontroll. If caught, the youth gets a warning and the bar looses it's license to serve.
For kids who want to get a buzz its way easier and cheaper to get hasjis or pills on the streets.
My parents let me taste alcohol when I was about 14. Started sneaking into bars and clubs at 15-16. It was much easier then, I think.
My dad figured I would go out no matter what he said, so he allowed me to go this one club, where I could have three pints and go straight home with the last bus. If there was any trouble, he would tell on the club serving underagers and thus get the club closed. Of course I behaved perfectly. smiley - flyhi

Anyways, Cooper really enjoyed kindergarten so perhaps I will enroll him in more classes after these are over with. Although, he didn't have much competition- just an eight week old golden lab: it looked like he had just barely opened his eyes! smiley - bigeyes They were the same size though, so a good playmate all around.

We tagged on the Beau part as both of his "granddads," on either side (what are they called? sire and whelp?) had Beau in their names.

Well, he's a darling, Spork. smiley - smiley

Mike A told me that Harry has merely admitted to having sampled the stuff. Methinks the royal boys have decided to meet the yellow press head-on, rather than undergo the death of a thousand headlines, like their mother did.

What Mike found much more entertaining and respect-worthy was that William recently swore at a photographer who was getting underfoot of his polo pony. I believe he said "Get out of the f***ing way, Postlethwaite!"
