*Pant, pant, pant*
Okay,....okay,....just made it through the last day. Is it just me, or were you talking more yesterday than usual?
Egyptology: Hmmmmm,....not as familiar with some of this info as I'm sure some members of my family are.
Drinking Age: Oh, I don't know. On the one hand you could get rid of one facet of rebellion, but on the other hand, who knows what would be used next. Not a clue about what I think here.
Goop Cake & Slime: Can't reveal anything about Goop Cake except that it's a special invention made by one of my grandmothers, where the cake, over the process of baking, is covered with a kind of chocolate goop, hence the name. An extremely well guarded family recipe.
As for Slime, it's basically just cornstarch, water, and food coloring. Boil on top of an oven for a while to get the texture at the right level, and set out to cool for about half an hour, and you've basically got a lovely ooze to play with! It's a horror to clean up (both after the cooking and after playing with it), but it's pretty fun.
I can't remember a single other thing about the backlog. Sorry. Off to school now. See you in probably 24 hours, or so.

I used to make play dough for my little darlings, using flour, salt, cream of tartare, water and food colouring. Not as nice smelling, or tasting as the shop bought stuff, but it still kept them amused.
Off to the dentist now for a check up, I hope! Trying to keep calm, trying to keep calm, trying to keep calm.............

If anyone were to start a guide entry (a more extensive one, that is) on egyptology I would be more than willing to contribute.

It seems as if the British Museum are responsible for an interesting egyptology site - need to have a closer look at it once I come home...
It's a British company site, and it is about ancientegypt

Well, I was actually here half an hour ago, but just as I opened a window to reply the browser threw and illegal op complete with blue screen of deadly hex, so I've been doing the usual housekeeping... Looks like a good morning for data backup.
Egyptology sounds more like a university project than an article to me, you know. We're talking about what? 3,000 years' worth of human development?
sea seems to have a good grasp of the essentials regarding Hatshepsut. Perhaps she should write that article and receive due credit fo it, and then we can start adding stuff to it!

I would love to visit Egypt, it looks fascinating. I don't know an awful lot about the Pharaohs, apart from what I have gleaned from tv documentaries. There was one chap who did a series about the Valley of the Kings, he was brilliant. I shall go and see if I can find out who. I think it was commissioned by the Beeb.
Another place I would like to see before too late are the gorges along the Yangzste (sp?) River which are due to be flooded in two years time.
Nothing to fear the dentist's, just a polish etc, phew!

Ancient Egypt seems to hold almost universal fascination around the world. I wonder if 10.000 years from now, Ancient USA will hold the same fascination.
A few months ago I saw the IMAX movie about Egypt. Amazing cinemetography - I felt like I was really there. It included a dramatization of the Howard Carter story, which was very well done, too. Well worth seeing.

Morning, all!
Sorry for my extended absence. Work has been insane and, well, so has life. But now things seem to be evening out - at least a bit - and I am back!
So, not having read the backlog yet, what's happening, peoples?
Matina, some please. Thank you.

G7! Nice to see you back.
The most important thing lately is all at the beginning of this thread. Go read the first page or so (at least).

Hi Gw7en, nice to see you back.
The Egyotologist/archaeologist I was thinking of is John Romer.

Hi again, GL and Caer.
I can definitely see the point, Lil. The best part of the Atelier has always been that one learns interesting trivia about subjects one wouldn't normally look into one's self. Having that information available again is a wonderful idea.
Caer, John Romer is an interesting read. Just whatever you do don't give Wallis Budge too much credit in the field of Egyptology. An strange chap, he was and one much given to making up strange stories and poor translations. Not that I'm biased against him or anything.
