[:x] in the dark about egyptology, but according to his geography teacher should know all about the three gorges dam.

I had to go searching for Egyptology on my own, Hafi. None of my teachers ever were as interested in it as I was.

They started our history lessons with primeval things and quite soon they were in communist history, soviet communist history. That was enough to make me hate history as such. I will read Terry Pratchett tonight (if I can turn off my computer ), maybe I'll get a new approach to pyramides.

I quite liked the site too Chris. I did have one problem though - it wouldn't load in Netscape 4.75. I fired up IE and it loaded fine.

Not biased against Wallis Budge? Duh - don't believe you, Gw7en...
sea - come on - write an entry on Hatshepsut, and inspire us!

I don't give the Threee Gorges Dam very long before it collapses, so am not too worried about missing a trip on the Yangstze just now.
Hati, the History of the Soviet Communist Party has much in common with that of Ancient Egypt. Same massive architecture, same priesthood (party) running the place while the peasants do all the manual labour. Same pharaohs, same dynastic tendencies, same politics.
Glad to see you back, Gw7en!
Which Terry Pratchett book was it -- oh yes, it was called Pyramids. That's the one. Small Gods is relevant, too.

Hati Posted Jan 17, 2002
Nah, I always thought that these things look quite the same all through the history.
I'm sure I prefer Pratchett's point of view.

When I was a child I had books on ancient Egypt and Mexico and spent my time devising a combination of Egyptian and Aztec hieroglypics to write secret notes to my pals in. It never caught on.

We used to use the old lemon juice trick.
H and No1 son are keen Terry Pratchet fans. The audio tapes get played on long car journeys, but I never listen to them for long as my mind starts to wander......
I think I need to read up on Egyptology, if only recognise a few more of the names on Stargate

Candi - now 42! Posted Jan 17, 2002
I don't know much about Egyptology, though remember seeing TV program once about the alignment of the pyramids with the stars, and trying to link them with the mexican pyramids via aliens!.....
I saw the IMAX film too (I get to see most of them since there is an IMAX cinema in Bradford only 20 minutes away from here on the train).
Thought the photography brilliant, but didn't like the dramatisation. I would have preferred a more straight forward documentary approach.
It sounds like an interesting idea for a project anyway .

Catching up on the Blog.
Loony mentioned earlier that he thought us Brits would make good communists.
Of course it could well be that the ideas of Karl Marx and Lenin were both in part shaped by living in London

Judging by the reports of increased High Street spending and the credit card usage we've been racking up over Christmas, most Brits are quite happy as capitalists!

Thanks for the website comments, guys.
GL, Marv had the same problems using Netscape, and so does everyone around the world using same browser. He started a thread on my user space entitled 'Unreal', and I've explained the problem there.
Curiously enough, it's not my fault, either.
Ah yes, the study of Ancient Egypt. I'm afraid I don't know much about that. I do find the myths (adapted though they may be, to a degree) in Stargate SG-1 quite interesting, though.
I've only been to see one IMAX movie. The Blue Planet, I believe it was called. Can't remember a bit of it.
I do remember that I was dead impressed, though.

Prof, I particularly like the color scheme on that web site. Very cool.
I also very much loved those great big puppy eyes, Sporky.
Ti, my favorite photos where the tall, snow covered trees and your shadow. I'd love to see what that hat looks like.
And both tatoos are very lovely designs.
*Eventually, I will get in the car, get out the map, and take a trip to the museum. *
