Do we know what this Heart of Darkness looks like? Has it ever been known to eat ants?

Heart of Darkness? Is it a person/monster/object/valuable?
*looks puzzled*
I don't think I missed anything in the backlog. Oh well, I expect it will all come clear in due course.
*tries rye bread with cream cheese and chives*

All I heard was the assembled crowd snarfing down assorted savouries.
*replays the rather lengthy recording of GL's contribution for Caer's benefit*
"It's gotten out. There was a little accident with the fribulator controls and...well, it escaped. I'm not sure how mobile it is, but it was sure moving fast behind me. Do you think the Heart of Darkness can climb?"
No, wait... I definitely heard a sort of low, pulsating, snufflly sound.

Thanks Amy, I picked up on the eggs bit and missed the reference to the Heart of Darkness
*steps away from the abyss*
Do you think the food trolley might act as a decoy? Does the HofD get hungry?
The Linen Closet
Amy the Ant - High Manzanilla of the Church of the Stuffed Olive Posted Oct 8, 2001
*snags a piece of pizza from the trolley and swings up into Styx's backpack*
Gee up, Rat! Let's go and give this bad guy a kicking in the ventricles.

/* Picks himself up off the ground and accepts the sausage roll from Lil. */
Thanks. The Heart of Darkness isn't radio-active is it? My feet were still dangling in the pit when all that happened, and now I have a tummy ache.
/* Eats sausage roll */
And who is Alvin Stardust? What episode of Dr. Who was he in? Can he get up or down stairs?
The Linen Closet
Munchkin Posted Oct 8, 2001
*Dons pedants hat* Alvin Stardust wasn't in Dr. Who, he was in bad adverts telling kiddies how to cross roads. However, shuffling armies of waxworks were in Dr. Who, hence my discomfort.*Removes pedants hat*
Hmm Heart of Darkness, good old story that. If this cave turns out to deposit us in Africa, we really are in trouble. Any more vol au vents left?
The Linen Closet
Mindspring the Unau Posted Oct 8, 2001
*enters closet*
*heard Lil's voice*
*missed Lil - and missed Titania!*
*sniff*
*approaches canape cart*
The Linen Closet
Amy the Ant - High Manzanilla of the Church of the Stuffed Olive Posted Oct 8, 2001
*hears something and signals to Styx to stand still*
"Meep! Meep!"
*points back at Mindspring the Unau*
Look, there's Springie on the wrong side of the abyss. Can she jump that far?
The Linen Closet

Titania (gone for lunch) Posted Oct 8, 2001
OK, you're confusing me - so where exactly is Springie? On a side you've already left behind you - or in front of you?
*relieved to sense the what-ever moving away from her*

Asteroid Lil - Offstage Presence Posted Oct 8, 2001
The canape cart cannot have crossed the bridge by itself: it came to a halt at the lip of the abyss and hasn't moved since. Anyone or anything entering via the linen closet will be on the same side as the vol au vents. It's assumed that anybody who's snacking may have re-crossed the bridge to get to the cat.
If Mindspring ate pastries off the cart then she is entirely capable of jumping the abyss and breaking into dance on the other side .
Details, details.

Let's leave some canapes behind just in case the HoD ~is~ hungry, and move on a bit.
*grabs a few kebabs for the road*
The Linen Closet
Mindspring the Unau Posted Oct 8, 2001
*munchies on some pastries*
*carbo-loads*
*jumps right over the abyss*
*starts tap-dancing*
*stops*
*sensing the distant presence of Titania*
*scuttles off*
The Linen Closet
Titania (gone for lunch) Posted Oct 8, 2001
Springie! Honey!
*s unau and gives her a thorough *
How on did you manage to find me? And where are the others?
*stares into the blackness surrounding her*

/* Starts across the rope bridge, stops, goes back, unties the rope that is around his waist, ties the rope to the cart, takes a handful of canapes, and crosses the rope without incident. */
/* except for a couple of canapes dropped into the abyss */

*yawn*
Perhaps it is time to see what everyone else is doing in the salon. Then again I don't think they've noticed I've gone missing yet.
Mwahaha *cough* *cough* Damn woolen linen.
