David, I have 7 nieces/nephews. You can have some of them if you like.

s and s all around, Hypatia And anyone for good wishes for me.
I was in Brussels for some EU training, not a big deal but a cheap trip.
House selling is relatively easy and fast process here if real estate companies are involved. Banks could slow it down though. I guess the hardest part would be finding a new place and moving there.
I sure did want it all but that doesn't necessarily mean that I enjoy it, does it? And there's such a mess around about my ex who is the co-owner of the house.
Z - communistic system had it's advantages, of course. Free medical care for example, including dental care. Then again, the quality was unbelievably poor, especially technology-wise. I don't object the whole idea of communism, in general it's a good one, it's just noone can afford it. Not even Norway though they are quite close.

*listens to Hyp's news, alternately wincing and looking relieved* I met a chap in Australia who had had a round dozen squamous cell carcinomas removed from his chest. He took his shirt off to show us. Blimey.
S and I went out today to do a little touristing and shopping. Possibly not a clever move, as S's leg started to hurt like a swearword by after lunch, so we came home again. With a fine haul of on-sale DVDs. He now feels fine and I have a headache. Pfft. Salon beginning to look like a convalescent home - for every bandaged waif we have a hobbling one and one with a cologne-soaked hanky pressed to her temples.
Saw a very sweet baby while out and about - all his fluffy hair was sticking up on end in an impromptu mohican. I announced to S that I would now be broody for the rest of the day. Coming in here and finding baby congratters in session is absolutely not helping for GDZ's uncledom and a long and happy life to the new person.
*Goes off to brood on the sofa. Is knitting teeny weeny jumper for own uncle's impending baby (my new cousin). Pregnancy clearly the new Ug boots.*

I'm glad your head's healing, Hyp. A couple of years ago they took one off me, and I guess I was lucky...lots of blood (scalp wounds!) but not a lot of pain.
Sol, perhaps I need to go have surgery again...I'm trying to figure out how to dissertate and quit smoking at the same time. Not fun!
Congrats, GDZ!
Rainbow, I like the way you think. You leave it up, you clean it. Sure enough way to make boys think twice about it. I was never all that uptight about it until, when I was 7 months pregnant, my X left the seat up and I got wedged in...in the middle of the night. Of course, he was pretty good about putting it down after that!
D told me last night that my friend C would make a good stepfather. Too bad he's got a penchant for women who are bad for him, eh? Ah well.

Congrats GDZ, my next nephew or neice is due in January.
As there is always talk of art in here, I just spotted this on the BBC News website, a set of winning pictures in the Visions of Science photographic awards 2005 - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/shared/spl/hi/pop_ups/05/sci_nat_visions_of_science_/html/1.stm
Some interesting pictures in there.

Ugg boots.
I have a theory about why scalp wounds are so painful: gravity. Your skin is hanging off the top of your skull, and when you cut it, the wound naturally wants to open further so that your skin can slip off and fall to the ground.
I just received this email:
Hello Sandra,
To be honest DFA lost your paperwork and have asked us to resubmit which we have copies of everything.
We resubmitted to DFA and they promised to expedite and have payment by this thursday. There is no excuse for this mishap but it does happen with the amount of volume DFA receives. This should not happen again.
I like that last sentence.

Ugg boots are truly that...ugg. Incredibly unflattering, even on the skinniest of women. Of course, that's just MHO.
Still haven't heard on my other job yet. So I'm blithely planning my trip to Santa Fe, New Mexico and the surrounding area in less than two weeks. I've got two motels picked out in the downtown area, and I've discovered four restaurants nearby thanks to a local independent newspaper's "Best of Santa Fe" poll. They are popular local hangouts and serve excellent regional cuisine. If I get the job the trip is cancelled, so I'm thinking in my twitchy karmic way that if I plan this vacation in excruciating detail then I'll get it and all is off.

*wonders when Marv's nephews and nieces will arrive in the post and considers clearing out a cupboard so he has room for them*
One of my colleagues wears Ugg boots, and it doesn't look good. But then, to be honest, I've never seen her wear anything that does look good.

I don't have Ugg boots, but I have to confess I have some similar Celtic boots, however they were bought specifically for medical reasons (on-going foot problems that I endlessly went on about in my previous h2g2 existence), so I think I'm excused.

Rainbow, there's a difference. I mean, there are women around here who have ugg boots in pink, for crying out loud! It's a damned funny sight to see a girl in a skir (a skirt so short it's missing a letter), a teeny weeny little top, and these big clunky boots. It's like she forgot to finish dressing or something.
Lil, at least they were honest about where your money wasn't...that's something, at least.
I've got a lecture to go to today, and a late afternoon class. Hopefully, the class will get out early and I can bounce over to a committee meeting.
I think, at this point, between dissertating, teaching, my pedagogical work, being on the grad student senate, being on the Grad Student council of the faculty senate, and the grad committee for my department, besides trying to be a good mom, I think I've earned the right to say "no" to the next request for pretty much anything.

Afternoon, everyone.
Entering panic mode again: just over 42 hours until I have to have mastered the C programming language, and created a shell capable of calling programs, backgrounding them, piping information between programs, and a bunch of other stuff.
And the professor said that, despite the fact that we have so many labs this semester, if a single person is late with this lab they'll fail the class.
This man clearly, clearly wants my hair to go gray well before I graduate.

My website project was due to go live today but I accidentally deleted more than half of it. I feel such a fool. They're making me w*rk too hard. I'm absolutely exhausted. And now I'll have to give up my weekend to rebuild the site.

Oh, I've been there too, Amy. Stock up on caffeine, chocolate, stuff for making sandwiches, and take a break every hour.
