Spike is a genius. I loved his war diaries especially. I think he was knighutted recently, poor $*&£.
Excuse my French, I've been in the pub all day. Some of us have to drink, doncha kno?

I haven't seen the LotR trailer. I do remember I had a terrible struggle to keep all the names straight in the books though. I kept getting confused about who was who and who was dead. Probably shows lack of character or something.
My favrourite fantasy books are by sumbody Cook. Well, I'm not sure actually. They all have names like The wizard and the warloard, the woman and the wyrine, and they are the only fantasy books I've ever read that have societys that actually match something approximating reality and people behaving as they would accordingly . They are therefore horrendously grim, nasty and brutish. Favourite is definitely the wrong word, actually. They do exert a rather horrified fasination over me though.

Prof, I agree that the gobo army is incredible. That's really some smooth work and is part of what's making me so excited about the movies.
Solnuska, son't worry about wondering who was dead and who wasn't. Mr Tolkien was a master of killing folk off to have them return.
Tad Williams and David Eddings both rank high on my favorite fantasy author list as well. I read my copy of Tailchaser's Song so many times that the poor thing is falling apart. (Fortunately, that made an excellent excuse to pick up the reprinted version with the new and improved introduction. Woo-hoo! ) And I fall in love with Garion again everytime I read the Belgariad and Mallorian.
E just walked up and informed me that Mr Williams will be here in town in August. My day is made!
Matina, please.

*not quite sure about the 'Zaphodista' thing any longer* It sounded pretty good to me when I first joined, but lately, all I've seen that's been going on are rants, rants, rants, and attacking the wrong people (Mark & Co)... ...and now people are starting to leave... http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/F63734?thread=106893&latest=1 *cuddles Springie absent-mindedly*

Gah! No, I must reassure you all, the Zaphodista's have not gone sour!
No, see, as GL explained over in The Other Place, Subcom. Dietzob (I've probably spelt that wrong) said that if he were in Mark's place he would resign. I wasn't implying that he /should/ resign, no, only if he himself was in Mark's position. Which he isn't.
I haven't heard of anyone else attacking Mark, Peta and the like, but if they are, it's a minority group. All of us know that it isn't the Towers' fault, but it's the Beeb's fault. No, stick to the Zaphodistas, or else nothing will ever get done...
I'm posting this in The Other Place too, just in case The Big M's think I'm posting libel of the BBC.
Did I phrase that sentence correctly? 'Libel' is such an odd word...

I think that Subcom. never realized how many would join... or how hard it is to get that many people to agree and act...I still miss ACTION! INITIATIVE! PROGRESS!

Peta has commented on Subcom to the ACEs. She still supports the original idea of the Zaphodistas, as do I. However, Subcom seems to have forgotten the old adage, you catch more flies with honey than vinegar. I, personally, continue to carry on my own peaceable protests, much in the vein of Dr Martin Luther King Jr and Gandhi.
Prof, How was the car?!?!?!

Ah yes, I haven't had a ride in the car yet, but I've had a good look.
It's a beauty! Metalic blue paint, leather seats, perfectly polished wood panels, good radio & tape player (and a CD player, but it's in the boot - rather inconvenient ), sun roof, and all the other things like cup holders and electric windows. It's got a lot of space too.
Altogether, fully loaded.
I await the first drive with great anticipation...

Hello, all.
Bye, Chris. The car sounds nice.
I've felt uncomfortable about the Zaphodistas for a while now. The Subcom's methods are just not my style. But as long as Peta was wearing her beret, I thought things might work out.
As far as I'm concerned, the group made it's point and the italics are aware of how the community feels. They'll do the best they can.
*sigh*

I have recently stopped following the Zaphodista threads. I think the point is made very much by the number of people who've joined, but the PTB have made the position clear, and even managed to negotiate over details in order to ease the burden of moderation. Under those circumstances, I think it behooves us to chill a little bit. Obdurate rants do not a good impression make.
Chris, the Jag sounds magnificent, but why is the CD player in the boot? Hasn't it been installed yet? How on earth can you play things on it when it's back there? *shows where Lil's priorities lie when it comes to features on luxury automobiles*

simulpost, WM -- nice to be in the thread at the same time as you.
Since there are several of us who feel that way, what if I go post to the zaphodista page on behalf of the atelier? Would you all be in agreement with that?

I'll guess it's one of those multi changer units. Stick several CDs in and forget about them for the journey.
Me I'd prefer it if it was MP3 CDs

Chris Tonks Posted Apr 12, 2001
I'm in agreement, Lil. Post away.
I guess things were getting a bit extreme near the end.
Yes, the CD player in the boot... It /is/ installed, that's the thing. I don't quite understand it, but we obviously have to stop the car and open the back up to change CD's. Maybe there's a CD changer there too, just for convenience. We'll see.
