The Elusive (Leusive?!) Lake Louise
Phil Posted Apr 6, 2001
The colours of the lakes are good and interesting as blues go. My favourite shade of blue would have to be that colour you get in the sky in the twilight just before full night (where the western horizon is still just showing some light).
I'll go over and check out the pimlico thing now.

*sea wakes up, mumbles something about her english teacher not properly appreciating the witty existentialism of 42, and drifts back to sleep*
i was lectured for a while because i said that the meaning of life was 42 during a class discussion... and even though i kept repeating that it was a literary allusion, my teacher was not amused... oh well. that poor woman, having never encountered the joy of HHGTTG...

Any of the lakes mentioned would make a great improvement to my view out of the window, either at home or at work
But I have to admit to being a sea person myself having been born and brought up on the coast thats the thing I like most when I get out of London.

Send her to see me, sea.
Just reposted my Pimlico stuff on the thread here. I had posted at the other place because Munchers had posted there. I had included links to some pictures I found on the web, but of course, couldn't post the links on h2g2. What a stupid limitation that is.

Your teacher is obviously a very sad individual never mind maybe you and the rest of your class can enlighten her by all including hitch hiker references next time

At least my personal space didn't get moderated! I guess the moderators must actually check the links.
Perhaps I'll maintain that page and have a regular contest. *thinking* Dad would never have kept part of something in the kitchen unless it had its own use. All broken stuff always went to the workshop and stayed there for thirty years.

Hi all, have a good weekend, for those I miss in my passing through. I have to do this w*rk thing this weekend. Ho hum.
Nice to see Unch appear again.

B17, tell those bosses of yours to make up their minds on your schedule! Poor chap! Working on the weekend should be banned, except for a very select group of people who get three days off during the work week to make up for working the weekend.
Lil, I'd love to see the pimlico contest continue. Its very interesting to see what can be dug out of kitchens. It also makes me feel that I'm not the only pack rat around.
Sea, if your teacher doesn't have the good sense to recognize H2G2 when you quote it, then force her to tell you what she thinks is the meaning of life. I guarantee that it won't make any more sense than 42.

What I can do with the Pimlico contest is accept attachments from other people and post them on my site -- what do y'all think of that idea?
I had hoped that, if people couldn't identify the items posted, they might come up with a unique name, preferably town-name-based the way the terms are in The Meaning of Liff. I never really approved of sniglets -- thought sniglets missed the point entirely.
And nobody has identified the red plastic thing, which does not appear to be a part of anything else...

*crawls out from under sofa* Fighter jets overhead!!! The annual Sun'n'Fun Fly-In starts on Sunday, many of the campers are already here, and plane arrivals will begin in earnest tomorrow. I have stocked in my groceries and will be staying in as much as possible. Staying off the road, I should say. I'll be running outside ever time I hear a warbird.
I really really really wish we could see more than one recent post when we're on this cgi screen. Was that Babel who just said he's leaving for the weekend?

*floats in on a cloud of popcorn*
Hullo, all. Mayhap someone could post the link to the pimlico arena? I seem to be unable to do much with the compy today...or any day, for that matter.
Affy, dearest, there are NO immersion schools in Montana except one, which is Spanish, and doesn't do me, the poor medieval theology student, much good. But I stand by the point that American schools do not teach foreign languages at an early enough age!
Babel, dear, so sorry for the loss of your weekend...will you have to work weekends at the other job?
Matina, would you be so kind as to refresh my tea?

Yup. Poor thing has to work this weekend.
I've only been to one air show. It was neat to see all of the planes, but it was awfully noisy and many of the people there were not folks that I would normally spend time with. Over all, it was an ok experience, but not something I really want to repeat soon.
I have always wanted to get my pilot's license though...

Montana, it's post #619 in this thread, the url to the pimlico thread.
I agree completely that schools do not sufficiently emphasise mastery of a second language. It ought to begin in primary school, when the children are malleable, as has, I think, already been stated here. I was really lucky, cos I got to attend a summer camp where French was spoken all day, for several summers in a row. My vocabulary was far from conventional, but I could speak and read the language fluently.
My accent is pretty badly oxidised, but I bet I could get it back after a few days in Paris.
Anybody got special weekend plans? I'm going to keep avoiding my taxes.

Boring weekend ahead. More writing. Trying to hit the deadline on Wednesday.
Why does my supervisor thing that a programming language for eight year olds should be capable of recursion?
